A lot of people think they need more motivation to become consistent with exercise.
Honestly, motivation is the problem most of the time. Motivation comes and goes. Some weeks you have plenty of it. Other weeks... not so much.
What seems to matter more is making it easier to come back.
- Maybe that means your workout is only 20 minutes instead of an hour.
- Maybe you lift a little lighter because you didn't sleep well.
- Maybe you go for a walk instead.
- Maybe you show up and realize that's enough for today.
People get into trouble when every workout has to be the "ideal" workout.
Because life isn't ideal most weeks.
It's busy. You're tired. Plans change. Kids get sick. Work runs late.
The people who stick with exercise usually aren't the ones who have the most motivation.
They're the ones who have a version of the plan that still works when life gets messy.
And when they miss a workout?
They don't spend the next week trying to make up for it.
They just... come back π

"Very Personal Training" wasn't chosen because every workout is personalized
Honestly, every good personal trainer should be personalizing workouts
So that wasn't really the point, the point is that exercise is personal.
Not because everyone's program is different, but because every person is different, and because of everything that people bring with them when they walk through our door πͺ
- Some people have spent years feeling intimidated by gyms
- Some are coming back after an injury
- Some have had a really complicated relationship with exercise for a long time
- Some just want to feel strong enough to keep up with their kids, carry groceries without thinking about it, or get through the day with a little more energy
Those stories matter and change how we coach β¨
They change the pace we move at. The questions we ask. The things we celebrate.
To us, that's the personal part.
It's not just that your program is built for you. It's that we think coaching should start with getting to know the person standing in front of us.
That's what "Very Personal Training""means to us π

"Begin again; that is the practice"
β Danna Faulds
We spend so much time thinking consistency means never missing a workout.
It doesn't.
Consistency is coming back. Again. And again.
Life will interrupt your routine.
Vacations. Work. Kids. Illness. Stress.
Beginning again isn't a setback. It's part of the practice π

Starting somewhere new can feel intimidating.
We know that for many people, walking into a gym isn't the hardest part. It's everything that happens before it. Wondering if you'll fit in, if you'll be judged, or if you'll be pushed beyond what feels right.
That's why we approach first sessions a little differently.
We start by getting to know you, your goals, your experiences, and what your body needs right now. From there, we'll guide you through moving in a way that feels supportive, personalized, and realistic.
If you've been curious about training at VPT but weren't sure what to expect, we hope this gives you a clearer picture.
If you'd like to learn more, fill out the inquiry form. We'd love to hear a little about you and help you decide whether VPT is the right fit, let's start the conversation: https://calendly.com/hi-verypersonaltraining/20-minute-phone-consultation

One of the biggest misconceptions about working out is that there's one right way to do every exercise
In reality, good coaching teaches you that it is a lot more flexible than that π
If something feels uncomfortable, unstable, or just plain off, we don't automatically assume you need to push harder. We get curious
Maybe your stance needs to change
Maybe your range of motion needs to be smaller today.
Maybe there's another exercise that trains the same muscles and feels much better.
The goal isn't to force your body into a movement, because everyone's body is different, and therefore will react differently.
The goal is to help you get stronger in a way that works with YOUR body, not against it.
That's not taking the easy way out

The quickest way to stop enjoying your progress is to start measuring it against someone else's.
No matter how far you've come, there's always someone farther.
But if you only measure yourself against everyone else...
you'll miss the person you're becoming.
Lift your own weight.
Live your own life π

One of the things we love most about coaching is that we're got to teach our clients to celebrate the progress they haven't even noticed yet, because they're busy looking for the obvious stuff
- The heavier weight.
- The number on the scale (even though we tell them to lock throw them away).
- The mirror.
Meanwhile, we're noticing that you don't hesitate before trying something new anymore.
-That you aren't apologizing every five minutes.
-That you're breathing easier.
-That you walked into the studio today looking like you belonged here.
Those moments matter so so much.
In fact, we'd argue that they're some of the best signs that strength is carrying over into real life.
Sometimes progress is louder, but many times it's quieter and more subtle.
Both count π

Ever find yourself wondering if you should grab the heavier dumbbell... or the lighter one?
You're not aloneπ«
One of the most common questions we hear is, "Am I using the right weight?"
The answer isn't a specific number. It depends on the exercise, your experience, how you're feeling that day, and what you're trying to accomplish.
The goal isn't to make every workout as hard as possible. It's to challenge your body enough to get stronger while still moving well
That's why the "right""weight can change from one workout to the next, and why good coaching is about more than counting reps
Have you ever found yourself wondering if you should go heavier or lighter?

There is something about summer that makes life feel a little more possible.
The days are still long. Dinner happens outside. Kids are still running around the playground at 9pm. There is music coming from open windows, wet bathing suits hanging over chairs, and nowhere you need to rush quite as much.
So wear the shorts π
Even if you're still self-conscious. Even if you don't feel completely comfortable yet. Even if part of you wants to wait until you feel more confident.
Do it anyway
Get in the pool. Sit on the blanket. Take the picture. Have ice cream for dinner. Say yes to the plan
You don't have to feel ready before you let yourself live
You don't get this August back βοΈ
Hope you're in as much of it as you can be
