Somos is saddened by the passing of Dominican Latin-Grammy winning Merengue star Johnny Ventura. Known as as "El Caballo Mayor" – the great horse – Ventura was a singer, songwriter, bandleader and arranger recognized for modernizing merengue. His several hits, include "Patacón pisao", "Capullo y sorullo" and "Merenguero hasta la tambora."
Ventura, a lifetime achievement award winner died on Wednesday in Dominican Republic at 81 years old.
