Flambeaux Bicycle Tours (pronounced Flam-bow) offers small group bicycle tours of New Orleans, bike They also served as guides that led the parade on its route.

The Flambeaux (pronounced: "flam-bow") are torches used during Mardi Gras parades. Throughout the history of our carnival tradition, the flambeaux carriers have lit up the night before floats so that revelers could see the parades. In the same spirit, Flambeaux Bicycle Tours seeks to shed light on New Orleans' traditions and heritage. As we guide you through town, we share our city's colorful past

The Marigny is a neighborhood born of revolution.

When the Haitian Revolution upended the French colony of Saint-Domingue, thousands of refugees—free people of color, formerly enslaved people, and white colonists—made their way to New Orleans. They brought with them their language, architecture, traditions, and craftsmanship, helping shape the Marigny into one of the city’s most vibrant Creole neighborhoods in New Orleans.

Every block tells a story of migration, resilience, and cultural exchange.

Join us as we pedal through the Marigny, where we’ll explore how the echoes of Haiti helped define the New Orleans we know today—one historic street at a time.

We offer daily bike tours through the French Quarter, Faubourg Marigny, St. Roch Cemetery and beyond on our 9:30am Heart of the City Tour.

New Orleans in Paris!

Unloading Goods from Louisiana on the Banks of the Seine by Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini.

This sketch holds a lot of deep meaning for me.
In 1720, the Italian painter Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini was commissioned by financier John Law to paint a monumental 130-foot by 27-foot fresco on the ceiling of the Royal Bank of France.

Law—whose financial schemes helped shape the founding of New Orleans as the colonial capital of Louisiana alongside Philippe II, Duke of Orléans—placed New Orleans at the center of the composition.

The fresco itself was short-lived. Following the spectacular collapse of Law’s bank in 1720, it was destroyed in 1722. Thankfully, Pellegrini’s preparatory sketch survived, preserving one of the earliest grand artistic representations of Louisiana and its connection to the founding of New Orleans.

Read more about this remarkable work in our journal. I’ll share the article in our Stories and pin it to our Journal Highlights.
