Remember last winter's ice dams? Plenty of Connecticut homeowners are still repairing what they left behind.

The mechanism is simple. Warm air escaping your attic heats the underside of the roof deck, snow on top melts, and the runoff slides down to the cold overhang where it refreezes into a solid ridge.

Each thaw sends more meltwater into that blockage, and once it has nowhere to drain, it finds its way under your shingles and into the ceiling.

This is exactly why we treat this as a ventilation problem rather than a shoveling chore.

Did you know that late summer is the best roofing weather we get all year? Dry decking, warm shingles that seal properly, and (usually) no rush to beat an incoming storm front.

An inspection completed this time of year will reveal what is actually there, and any repair we make has ideal conditions to bond and cure. Try that same work in November, and you are fighting tougher conditions and temperatures the whole way.
