Ever wondered what a day at Wilderness Adventure looks like? Come find out.

On Saturday, September 5, we're opening up the property for a full day of outdoor adventure in the mountains of New Castle, VA. Whether you're looking for a family adventure, something new to try with friends, or just an excuse to spend the day outside, choose the adventure that sounds like you:

🧗 Guided Rock Climbing
🔦 Guided Caving
🚵 Mountain Biking
🛶 Tubing, Kayaking & Canoeing on Craig Creek
🌲 High Ropes Tour

Most guided adventures kick off at 1:00 PM, with Craig Creek shuttles and bike rentals available throughout the day. The Outpost will also be open for lunch and dinner, so come early, stay late, and make a day of it.

This is also a chance for us to share more of the adventures we offer beyond summer camp and give our local community a new way to experience Wilderness Adventure.

Activities are priced individually, so build the day you want. Guided adventures have limited availability, with most capped at just 10 participants.

Looking for a short-term adventure this fall? We’re hiring Outdoor Adventure Trip Leaders to join us for a 3-night backpacking trip with Woodberry Forest School students in the mountains of Virginia!🥾⛰️

You’ll spend your days outside leading a group of high school students through backpacking, climbing, caving, ropes courses, and more. No need to be an expert in everything...we provide training and pair new trip leaders with experienced staff.

📅 Training: Sept. 24–25
🏕️ Program: Sept. 26–29
💰 Pay: $600
🍽️ Perks: Meals + lodging provided

We’re looking for people who:
• Are 18+
• Enjoy working with youth
• Are comfortable in a rustic, outdoor environment
• Have CPR/First Aid certification (a plus, but not required!)

Come spend a few days outside, work with a great team, and explore the mountains with us. 🏕️🌲

We're looking for enthusiastic and responsible Trip Leaders to join our team this fall. We have several employment options available, including a full fall season position and opportunities to lead two of our largest annual programs, Veritas and Woodberry. If you love working with youth in the outdoors and have strong leadership and communication skills, we'd love to have you on board!

📅 Schedule & Pay Options

Option 1: Fall Group Leader (Full Season)
Dates: Late August - November (flexible)
Pay: $80-$95/day

Option 2: Both Veritas & Woodberry
Dates: September 21–29
Pay: $1,050 (includes both groups + training days)

Option 3: Veritas Only
Dates: September 21–24
Training: September 21-22
Program: September 23–24
Pay: $450

Option 4: Woodberry Only
Dates: September 24–29
Training: September 24- 25
Program: September 26–29
Pay: $600

As a Trip Leader, you’ll be responsible for guiding students through outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, team-building initiatives, and more. You’ll help create a positive, safe, and engaging experience that fosters growth and adventure.

✅ Requirements:
-Must be 18+
-Experience working with youth preferred
-Comfortable leading in an outdoor, rustic environment
-CPR/First Aid certification a plus (we can help you get certified if needed!)

Our Wilderness Leadership Course (WLC) and our 13–14-year-old group have been crushing it on the trails! 🚵🌲

One ride was rainy, the other was sunny, but both were filled with creek crossings, mud, determination, and some of the biggest smiles we've ever seen. These campers have embraced every challenge and made the most of every mile.

Now they're trading bikes for boats as they head into one of our favorite parts of the trip... river days! 🚣🏽‍♀️🌊 We can't wait to see what adventures are next.

Archery is back at WAEL! 🏹

It has been more than a decade (or two) since we last offered an archery program, and we are thrilled to be taking aim once again. Yesterday, our Homestead Adventure campers were the first to test out our brand-new archery equipment and practice their Robin Hood skills.

We were so impressed by their determination, focus, and enthusiasm as they learned the basics and challenged themselves throughout the activity. It was an exciting day on the range, and we can't wait to see their skills continue to grow throughout the summer!

Our 11-12 aged 2-week classic trip is heading out on trail! Wish them luck as they tackle all the adventures in store for them!

Our GIRL trip crew has been conquering the outdoors one challenge at a time... from exploring caves deep beneath the mountains to building confidence, resilience, and friendships along the way. Watching these young women step outside their comfort zones and support one another has been incredible.

Meanwhile, our Outdoor Engineering students took a hands-on approach to mountain biking, learning the mechanics of their bikes before putting their new knowledge to the test on the trails. There's no better classroom than the outdoors when it comes to learning how things work and then seeing that knowledge in action.

Here's to getting dirty, trying new things, and discovering what we're capable of. 💚🚵‍♂️🦇⛰️
