A lesson I wish I learned earlier: Most Realtors are winging it. There. I said it.

And some of us have gotten REALLY good at making winging it look professional.

We're closing deals. Taking care of clients. Showing up at events. Posting on social media. Answering the phone like everything is handled... Meanwhile, half the business is living in our head.

I wish I had learned earlier that being good at real estate and building a business that works without you holding every piece together are two completely different skills.

You need systems.
You need a follow-up process.
You need to know where your next client is likely coming from.

And you need a plan for staying connected to the people you've already worked so hard to serve. Because eventually, "I'll remember to follow up" stops being a strategy.

Be honest: What's ONE part of your real estate business you're still winging?

3 habits I used as a Realtor to build a business that actually fit ME.
After enough years in this business, you learn that success isn't just about doing more. Sometimes it's about getting very clear about what you're no longer willing to do.

1. I learned to say "NO" by default instead of "yes."
If something was out of alignment with where I was going, how I wanted to serve or the life I was building, it didn't automatically get access to my calendar.

2. I got addicted to learning...and then teaching what I learned.
I became the teacher I wish I'd had when I first started selling real estate. Because when you've learned something the hard way, you can either keep it to yourself or make somebody else's road a little easier.

3. I learned to count it ALL joy.
The closings. The contracts that fell apart. The clients who taught me patience. The seasons when business was booming and the seasons that made me rethink everything.

It all taught me something. Your experience isn't just proof that you've been in real estate a long time.
It's an asset. Use it.

3 things that will help you 10X your productivity as a Realtor. And Sis, buying another planner is NOT one of them.

1. Decide what actually makes you money.
Not everything on your to-do list deserves equal attention. Client conversations, follow-up, nurturing relationships, appointments and asking for the business need to be somewhere near the top.

2. Stop starting your day in everybody else's inbox.
If the first hour of your morning is spent responding to everybody else's priorities, don't be surprised when yours never get done.

3. Give your business a repeatable rhythm.
You should not have to wake up every morning asking, "Okay...what am I supposed to do today?" Have designated time for prospecting, follow-up, content, clients and CEO work.

Productivity isn't about squeezing 37 things into one day.

It's about consistently doing the few things that actually move your business.

Which one needs a little work in your business right now: 1, 2 or 3?

Happy Monday, ladies. New week. New grace. And no, you do not have to have every single thing figured out by 9:00 Monday morning.

Some weeks are for closing. Some are for planting. Some are for following up on the seeds you forgot you planted three months ago. But every week is an opportunity to move with intention.

So before you open the CRM, check the MLS, answer 47 text messages and start solving everybody else's problems...take a minute for YOU.

A little prayer for your week:

Father, thank You for another week and another opportunity to use the gifts You placed inside of us. Give us wisdom to know what deserves our attention and discernment to know what doesn't.

Order our steps, align us with the right people, and remind us that we don't have to force what You have already assigned to us. Let there be peace in our decisions, favor in our conversations and joy in the work of our hands.

Amen.

Now go be great. And drink some water before that second cup of coffee.

Listen, I know you gave them excellent service. They loved you. Everybody hugged at closing, took the picture with the giant key, and promised they would tell everybody they knew about their amazing Realtor.

That was three years ago.

Since then, life has been LIFE-ing. They changed jobs, had babies, sent kids to college, refinanced, renovated the kitchen, and met approximately 14 other Realtors at neighborhood events, networking functions, church, school, and social media.

Being memorable at closing is wonderful. Staying connected afterward is how you turn one great transaction into a long-term relationship.

Your follow-up doesn't have to feel forced or salesy. Check in. Celebrate their home anniversary. Send useful information. Comment when you see the kitchen renovation finally finished. Be a real person who happens to also be their trusted real estate professional.

Because “They know I'm a Realtor” is not a follow-up strategy.
And that fabulous closing picture can only carry us for so long.

Experience is valuable, but experience doesn't mean you have to keep doing business exactly the way you've always done it.

The market changes. Technology changes. Buyers and sellers change. And guess what? YOU change too.

Maybe you don't want to spend every weekend sitting open houses anymore. Maybe you're ready to work more by referral. Maybe social media needs to become part of your strategy. Maybe you're ready to build a team, specialize in a particular market, or simply create a business that doesn't require you to be available every waking hour.

Changing your strategy doesn't erase everything you've accomplished. It allows you to take all that experience and use it differently.

There's no prize for doing real estate the hardest way possible just because that's how you've always done it. You've earned the wisdom to recognize when it's time to make an adjustment.

Your experience isn't supposed to keep you stuck in an old season. It's supposed to help you build the next one better.

Having a big database sounds impressive until we start asking when those people last heard from you.

Somewhere in that CRM is a past client who bought five years ago, a couple you met at an open house, somebody's cousin who said she was moving “next year,” and at least 37 people you absolutely meant to follow up with. Meanwhile, they're scrolling past other agents every day.

Your database isn't valuable simply because names are sitting in it. The value is in the relationships you continue to nurture.

Send the check-in text. Make the call. Share something useful. Congratulate them on the new baby, ask how they're enjoying the house, or simply say hello without immediately asking if they know anybody looking to buy or sell.

You don't have to constantly sell to stay top of mind. You just can't disappear and expect everybody to remember that you're still in real estate.

You know that pretty new planner with the tabs, goal pages, stickers, and the section that is absolutely going to change your entire real estate business? Put it back. We are not buying our fifth organizational system of the year when the first four are sitting on the desk looking brand new.

Sometimes we keep searching for a better plan because working the one we already have requires consistency, and consistency isn't nearly as exciting as a fresh notebook and some new pens.

Before you add another strategy, go back to the basics. Who do you need to call? Who needs a follow-up? What appointments need to be set? What marketing actually brings you business? Start there and give your current plan a chance to WORK.

You probably don't need another planner, another app, or another complicated system. You need to put some mileage on the plan you've already got.

And yes, I'm talking to myself too.

It's Friday, so let's have a little fun.

Real estate agents, you've heard some things over the years.

What's the ONE sentence a buyer or seller can say that immediately makes you think, “Ohhhh, this is about to be interesting”?

Mine might be:

“But Zillow says...”

Now I want to hear yours.

And please don't leave out the good ones. We need a little Friday entertainment.

Every closing represents more than one transaction. It represents a relationship that could potentially lead to repeat business, introductions, referrals, and opportunities for years to come. Yet many agents spend most of their energy finding the next client while barely communicating with the people who have already trusted them.

Your database should not be a digital filing cabinet filled with names you contact when you need business. It should be a relationship asset that you're intentionally nurturing throughout the year.

That might look like checking in around the anniversary of their purchase, sharing useful homeowner information, providing occasional market updates, celebrating important milestones, hosting client appreciation events, or simply reaching out without immediately asking for something. The point is to maintain a genuine relationship beyond the closing table.

And here's the part we don't always like to talk about: your past clients are still being marketed to by other real estate agents. They see signs, social media posts, mailers, advertisements, and open houses every day. If you disappear for three years and suddenly call because you heard they might be selling, you shouldn't be surprised if someone else has been building the relationship you stopped nurturing.

You earned the relationship. Now take care of it.
