My name is Nate and I’m the Head Teacher of the Preschool One classroom at the New Britain YMCA. Preschoolers are fun to be around all the time and are balls of energy and laughter!
One of the things that really stands out about working at the YMCA is how much they invest in their staff. The training and coaching opportunities I’ve received have helped me grow both professionally and personally.
One area I wanted to improve was the transitions in my preschool classroom. We created a system that made transitions more organized and less stressful for everyone.
I also had the opportunity to participate in leadership coaching with Derek Jones of DK Brand Collective. That experience helped me build confidence, communicate and collaborate more effectively, manage stress, and set goals for myself. It helped me not only to become a stronger teacher, but also to appreciate the impact of the work I’m doing every day.
The YMCA is also supporting me as I continue my education. I’m getting ready to take two additional college courses to advance my credentials in early childhood education, and through a scholarship, the YMCA is covering the cost.
Having my employer invest in my education and professional growth means a lot to me. I also feel fortunate to work in such a welcoming environment. My supervisors and coworkers are supportive, everyone is friendly, and it really feels like an extended family. It’s a great place to work.
