The Golf Division is comprised of Stanley Golf Course that offers a 27-hole Championship layout and hosts over 60,000 rounds of golf each season. The newly renovated Whinstone Tavern has also opened in the past month and has the ability to cater groups up to 200 people. A final performance is presented to an open audience to culminate the class. The Department also educates fourth grade students in the city about disabilities through its Kids on the Block Program. This national program uses puppets to teach the students about disabilities and differences. Each year over 800 students take part in this program

The Department’s summer programming also offers many arts related programs. Downtown Players is an acting camp that runs for seven weeks during the summer for children 7-18. Smalltown Players is designed for children 4-7 years old and inspires potential up and coming actors and actresses. As we celebrate National Recovery Month, we’re bringing our community together for an afternoon of connection, community, resources, food, music, and celebration.

A special THANK YOU to CMHA and Thomaston Savings Bank for sponsoring and supporting our New Britain Stands Together Community Picnic! Your generosity is helping us create a space where our community can come together and show that recovery is happening here. 💜

We are still looking for additional sponsors and community partners who would like to help us make this event possible.

But you don’t have to be a sponsor to be part of this day.
We want YOU there!

Whether you are personally in recovery, supporting a loved one, work in the recovery community, have been impacted by addiction, or simply want to stand alongside your neighbors, all are welcome.

📅 Friday, September 25th
⏰ 1:00–3:00 PM
📍 Central Park, Downtown New Britain

Come out. Connect. Grab some food. Listen to some music. Learn about resources. And most importantly, stand together.

💜 New Britain Stands Together.

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage of the first responders, families, and everyday heroes who showed strength in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

May we continue to remember those we lost, support those who serve, and stand together as a community.

SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH

New Britain is Recovering. Together.

This month, we recognize that recovery is possible, and no one has to do it alone.

Through New Britain Recovers, our community is working together to create a city where people feel supported, connected, and valued. We are bringing together residents, families, recovery organizations, service providers, first responders, community partners, and people with lived experience to build a stronger network of support.

Because recovery isn't just about overcoming substance use. It's about rebuilding lives. Rebuilding relationships. Finding purpose. Finding hope. And knowing that your community is standing beside you.

Every person matters. Every story matters. Every life matters.

This National Recovery Month, let's continue to show up, speak openly, break the stigma, connect people to resources, and remind our neighbors:

You are not alone. New Britain stands with you. New Britain recovers together. 💜
