Achilles International Nashville welcomes all people with disabilities to the wonderful world of RUNNING!

In Achilles parlance, running means any form of forward locomotion - conventional running, walking, wheeling, or swinging through crutches! In 1976, Dick Traum, an above the knee amputee, found himself approaching middle age and out of shape. After joining a local YMCA, Dick began running – small distances at first and then, eventually several miles. Within a year, Dick became the first amputee to

What an amazing morning we had at the Run Duck Run duathlon this morning at Duck River in Chapel Hill, TN! Our athletes and guides did a run, a kayak and a trail run and everyone finished strong.

Thank you Ryan Jolley for hosting Achilles for this race and thank you for all of your work to help TN state parks be more accessible! We will definitely be back to this beautiful race. 🏃 🦆 🏃‍♀️ 🏅

Why It Matters Monday!! 💛

For the first 23 years of his life, Kevin Kline had perfect vision. Then, at the end of 2018, he lost his sight over the course of just six months due to a genetic condition.

A couple of years later, Kevin moved from Bowling Green to Nashville, and meeting another blind athlete involved in Achilles, he discovered something he never thought possible—he could run and walk again.

Before losing his vision, Kevin competed in four years of cross-country and two years of track in high school. It had been nearly nine years since he had completed a 5K, making the Titans 5K in 2022 an especially meaningful milestone and his first Achilles supported race. He said, “One of my favorite experiences was that first race. It was extremely hard, but very fulfilling to be able to complete the Titans 5K in 2022.”  It reminded him that he was capable of far more than he had imagined.

Today, Kevin looks forward to joining the Achilles community every Wednesday and participating in as many races as he can throughout the year. The friendships, encouragement, and shared experiences have become an important part of his life.

Three years ago, Kevin joined GoodMaps, where he helps provide accessible navigation for people of all abilities in airports, rail stations, museums, and other venues around the world. Through his work, he travels independently and helps make navigation more accessible for others. When he’s home, Achilles provides another kind of freedom—the opportunity to stay active, enjoy the outdoors, and connect with an incredible community.

For Kevin, Achilles has become much more than a running organization. It has restored his confidence, strengthened his independence, and given him a family that continues to inspire and support him every step of the way.

His story is a powerful reminder that while life can change in an instant, resilience, community, and opportunity can open doors to a future that once seemed impossible.

Come join us for our Hope and Possibility race on Sept 5th where you can run alongside Kevin! Link to sign up is in our bio.

WILL RUN FOR ICE CREAM!! 🍦

Although it was hot, it will still go down as one of our favorite runs of the year - Bobbie's Dairy Dip run!! Every year we pick a summer practice and head towards Bobbie’s. Cones, cups and shakes sprinkled with joy were had by all. Should we start the countdown to next year’s Dairy Dip run now?! 😂

06/30/2026

IMPORTANT WEATHER NOTICE! Hello Achilles athletes/ Guides. Tomorrow (Wed practice) is our annual run/ walk to Bobbie's Dairy Dip and we couldn't be more excited! The weather is perfect for ice cream but not so much for running...so please it's an easy walk 1.23 mi walk via the Richland Creek Greenway and 53rd Ave N. (the operative word there is WALK!) At the most, if you are a speedy runner, take it down a notch and enjoy a slow jog to the ice cream shop. Achilles will be there at Bobbies to treat you to a cool treat and to shuttle you back to Mccabe Park Community Center....See you there. We meet at McCabe and ready to head out promptly at 5:30 so please be on time. Ice cream waits for no one! Also nobody is staying back to watch stuff so bring only what you can carry!

This is Why it Matters Monday…

Andrew Mast was diagnosed with brain cancer at 4 years old. This caused him to have a stroke which left him with no use of his left arm and leg. His vision was affected as well with no vision on both left sides of his eyes…but this guy knows no limits! He is a marathoner, a triathlete, an unbelievable cyclist and all around amazing guy.

Andrew always says to his dad and friends, “Do you know why I am not married yet… my wife is always on the left side and I keep missing her.” 😂

Andrew embodies who we are! Supporting Achilles means supporting Andrew. Come join us for our Hope and Possibility race on Sept 5th or join as a sponsor. We are grateful for you.
