These incredible windows were created for SHIFT by Selvin Glass. Reusing and reimaging individual pieces of glass & capturing the beauty in what might otherwise have been overlooked.

Inspired by SHIFT’s commitment to reuse and by the Korean textile tradition of Jogakbo—where small remnants of fabric are pieced together into beautiful compositions—the windows celebrate something we believe pretty deeply around here: there is beauty, value & possibility in what already exists.

We couldn’t imagine a more perfect piece of art for this little corner of SHIFT... and when the morning sun comes through its pure magic. 🌈✨. Stop in to check them out!

Join us for a cozy fall evening at SHIFT as we swap sweaters + scarves, sip locally made Katydid Hill Tea, & give some wardrobe favorites a new life.

Rather than our usual full clothing swap, we’re keeping this one intentionally simple & seasonal. Bring along pieces you no longer reach for & swap them for something new-to-you while enjoying a warm cup of tea & a little hygge-inspired community & connection.

How It Works:

All sweaters + scarves must be clean and in wearable condition.

Donations can be dropped off during store hours the week leading up to the event. **Drop-off deadline is 6 PM Wednesday, September 23.**

On the night of the swap, browse our “community closet” and select up to the same number of items you previously dropped off. This is an on-your-honor event designed to celebrate reuse, connection, and the
simple joy of finding something wonderful without buying new.

We’ll be serving up Katydid Hill Tea while you browse, so come ready to sip, swap, and settle into fall with us.

A $5 admission fee helps cover the cost of organizing and hosting the swap, and supports SHIFT’s ongoing free recycling programs. We strongly encourage participants to pay the $5 in cash when dropping
off their items to help make check-in quick and easy on event night.

Accepted Items:

Sweaters & scarves in clean, dry clothing in good, wearable condition

Have Other Fall Clothing to Donate?
Bring it along! While only sweaters + scarves will be included in this swap, we’ll also be collecting other clean, gently used clothing on behalf of Lower Merion Cares for their fall clothing drive.

Shop one-of-a-kind bags and quilts made from fabrics with a past, and support a cause close to the maker’s heart.

Stephanie’s sewn goods are built for everyday life: totes, drawstring bags, and quilts crafted from salvaged and vintage cotton, with leather scraps from an English bookbinder woven in for unexpected detail. Every piece is 100% unique and machine washable, made by a lifelong crafter who believes beautiful things should actually get used.

A portion of every sale benefits of hope, a local nonprofit that sews and donates post-mastectomy sweatshirts to women in recovery.

About the Vendor:
Stephanie Long has lived in Lower Merion for over 20 years and is a lifelong crafter. She took up quilting a few years ago and fell in love with upcycling vintage and salvaged fabrics. She sources salvaged and vintage cotton, gives it a second or third life, and recently began incorporating leather scraps from an English bookbinder, adding texture and story that can’t be replicated.

Stephanie volunteers with Pockets of Hope, a local nonprofit supporting women through breast cancer recovery, with a portion of all sales going directly to their work.

Today I took SHIFT offsite to the Upper Merion Senior Center to talk about changing perceptions of sustainability + low-waste living.

Getting out into our community to share our mission + talk about ways we can all live a little lighter on the planet has always been one of my favorite parts of SHIFT.

Kinda hard to believe, right!? Even I'm struck with disbelief looking back at this photo 🤯

Before the refills. Before the shelves. Before the workshops, pop-ins, thrifted treasures, familiar faces and everyday conversations… there was an empty room with mustard walls and a whole lot of possibility.

We couldn't have known exactly what SHIFT would become... but you better believe we could see it ...
.. and then you could, too.

You walked through the door. You brought your empty bottles. You told your friends and neighbors. And you came back. Again and again and again.
