When we come to an edge in our practice, where challenge meets curiosity, we start to listen for feedback from our nervous system. At Naples Yoga & Movement Center, we infuse classes with guidance towards this kind of awareness. The edge is the shift from automatic patterning into presence. This is a valuable skill to carry from your mat out into the world.

“The edge is where we meet ourselves.” — Jack Kornfield
We hear a lot about coming to an edge in a yoga practice, but the edge is often misinterpreted as efforting as much as possible. In reality, the edge that we are looking for in our practice is where our capacity meets our curiosity. The edge is a space of breathable intensity and sustainable effort. We will be exploring the edge all week. Join us!

"The goal of asana practice is to live in your body and to learn to perceive clearly through it." - Donna Farhi

The moment before a pose is its own practice. We organize in ways even beyond our awareness, and have the opportunity to choose clarity over momentum. We organize by listening: to the ground, to the breath, to the subtle direction of the body. This is how a posture becomes shaped by steadiness rather than habit.

"When the body gets working appropriately, the force of gravity can flow through." - Ida Rolf
It is important that we move on from the concept of alignment, or a one-size-fits-all approach to movement. Instead we study how the body organizes before we execute a movement. Organization is the body finding coherence and how the parts of the body are in relationship to one another. All of the elements of yoga, such as breath, drishti, and bandha, come together in conversation instead of conflict.

This weekend at Naples Yoga & Movement Center we continue the work of monitoring our capacity and how resourced we feel in our practice. When we notice the subtle shifts in our capacity, we recognize the difference between effort that depletes and effort that restores. The practice can be the recalibration and reset that you need this weekend.

"Time and health are two precious assets that we don't recognize and appreciate until they have been depleted." - Denis Waitley
Discernment is one of the most precious gifts of the yoga practices. The techniques of movement and breath are an inquiry about what we can meet in the moment, and whether the practice is serving us. Yoga is designed to be life-giving and rejuvenating. When the practice feels depleting, it is a call to investigate our intention around why we practice in the first place. We are in relationship to our practice, and this relationship shifts and changes along with the circumstances of our lives. At Naples Yoga and Movement Center, we recognize that we don't just provide classes, we encourage you to build and nourish this relationship.
