Established in 2016, the Myrtle Beach Fire Department Ice Hockey Club is a team of hockey-playing firefighters representing departments across the Grand Strand and Horry County.

The Myrtle Beach Fire Dept. Ice Hockey team helped raise more than $2,500 for a family in need at the Brothers Helping Brothers charity hockey game against Columbia Fire Hockey this past Saturday!

The teams went head to head at Flight Adventure Park - Irmo to raise money for the Dominick family, who have a child with a brain tumor. The MBFD hockey team took the win, with a final score of 8-6, but everyone walked away with a smile helping a fire service brother and his family in their time of need.

Thanks to the Columbia Fire Department (SC) for hosting and best wishes to Engineer Cody Dominick and his family.

πŸš’πŸ’ ServiceMaster Salute: Meet the Coaches πŸ’πŸš’

This week we're proud to recognize one of the leaders behind the bench and one of the longest-serving members of the Myrtle Beach Fire Department Hockey family β€” Assistant Coach Michael Rapp!

Coach Rapp serves the Myrtle Beach Fire Department as the Senior Guy on Rescue 1, assigned to the Special Operations Company.

Since joining the department in 2004, Michael has dedicated more than two decades to serving the citizens of Myrtle Beach while mentoring countless firefighters along the way.

Around the ice, Michael wears #18 and serves as Assistant Coach, bringing leadership, experience, and a steady presence to the locker room.

Whether he's helping develop players, supporting the coaching staff, or setting the example through hard work and professionalism, Coach Rapp embodies what Myrtle Beach Fire Hockey is all about.

His commitment to teamwork, service, and brotherhood extends far beyond the rink, making him an invaluable part of both the department and our hockey program.

Thank you, Coach Rapp, for your years of dedication to the fire service, your leadership within our organization, and your continued commitment to growing the game of hockey in our community. πŸ”₯πŸ’

❀️ A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who supported our efforts in helping make these cancer screenings possible.

To our community, fans, friends, supporters, and everyone who contributed their time, donations, encouragement, and effort β€” please know how truly grateful we are for each and every one of you.

Because of your support, we’re able to continue making a real impact both within the fire service and throughout our local community. Your generosity and belief in what we’re building means more than words can express.

Thank you for standing with us, supporting the cause, and helping us continue to make a difference. We value your support tremendously. πŸ”₯

Over the past two weeks, our members have participated in voluntary cancer screenings provided by United Diagnostic Services, LLC. Thanks to the support of our community and MB Fire Cares, these screenings were conducted at no cost to our members.

The members of the Myrtle Beach Professional Firefighters would like to extend a sincere thank you to Fire Chief Tom Gwyer for his relentless pursuit of cancer reduction initiatives; past President Brian Whittington for coordinating with UDS and MBFD to bring these screenings to our department; Matt Charizio, Karen Johnson, Debbie Johnson, and the P*e Dee IceCats for the tremendous work they put into making the MBFD ice hockey game a successful fundraiser for these screenings; and to our community members who purchased T-shirts or donated to MB Fire Cares.

Without all of these efforts coming together, this opportunity likely would not have become a reality.

Thank you for helping us take care of the people who take care of people.

Rest in peace, Chief Barstow.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news regarding the passing of Retired Fire Chief Tom Barstow earlier Monday afternoon following a hospitalization over the weekend during his continued bout with cancer.

Chief Barstow worked for the City of North Myrtle Beach from 1980-2015 promoting through the ranks until his appointment as Fire Chief and Emergency Preparedness Director in 1996, where he served until his retirement in February 2015.

The City of North Myrtle Beach is forever indebted to Chief Barstow and his service to our Department and City.

We ask that you join us in keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers.
