This is the smile of someone realizing the power of the work they’ve been doing for the last 60 days.
Everyday, this incredible team heads out to the outer islands of Cape Romain with relentless hope. And this time of year, they’re checking for new nests every morning, inventorying nests that hatched (3 days after hatch)— and sometimes helping mamas that need a little help getting back into the ocean.

Sometimes people ask what tour they should do that really unique. And because our guides are inspired by the tides, migration and the moon we have some fun experiences.
One that we'd put at the top of the list is the Backwoods Safari.
It came about because we were looking online for old tractors to pull wagons hayride style. YOU KNOW HOW THAT RABBIT HOLE GOES and we found a decommissioned military Humvee for sale in the Midlands. And it was then that we knew that what we really wanted was an old Humvee.
It's the perfect vehicle for slowly rambling on dirt roads as we search for iconic wildlife like roseate spoonbills, painted buntings, wood storks and alligators. So if you're looking for something that's literally off the beaten path, check this Kiawah River tour out.

Monday! Join us for a fun beach sweep followed by an after party at Chico Feo.
Nothing is sweeter than a cleanup with Easy Honey and our friends at Charleston Waterkeeper and Coastal Expeditions. We are celebrating Plastic-Free July with a beach cleanup at Folly Beach at the 2nd Street East access on Monday, July 13th at 5:30 PM!
We will head to Chico Feo after for a post-cleanup party, so bring your friends and help us keep our coast clean!

Nesting Update: First Hatch and Beach Drop Fundraiser!
Check it out and see how many nests are in the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge as of today.
Cape Romain Loggerhead Log: Update 4 Beach Drop for Sea Turtles fundraisers on July 12. Boat ride to Bulls Island and guided beach walk. Proceeds support the work of Cape Romain.

Loggerhead nests have begun to hatch in Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge!
With nearly 3000 nests laid in the refuge, the turtle team has been working very hard to protect nests every day.
Support their work by coming out on Sunday's BEACH DROP FOR SEA TURTLES! All of the proceeds go to paying the seasonal salaries for the technicians and interns leading the program.

Episode 2: Daytripper
This episode was narrated by the great Katie Doherty so turn on the sound (note the snort at the beginning of the episode).
Chris was making the tracks from the ocean for a demo nest before our Beach Drop for Sea Turtles a few years ago. Was it necessary to wear the turtle while doing it? No. Was it necessary for Chris? Heck yes.
This year's Beach Drop for Sea Turtles is July 12 and 100% of your ticket will go to protect loggerhead nests in Cape Romain! We're having a BIG YEAR for nests, so let's show the team our support.

Episode 1: False Crawl
The turtle team in Cape Romain has recorded over 3400 false crawls this year, a number that exceeds the 2200 nests (!) that have been laid.
Often, female loggerheads will come onto the beach decide it’s not an ideal place or time to lay her clutch and will return to the ocean.
Captain Chris graciously did a reenactment of what a false crawl looks like using our fiberglass turtle Sandy. What many of you may not know is that Chris was a theater minor at College of Charleston Arts and uses his degree every day. He also doesn’t have social media so he will not know what you’re talking about when you mention this video because it is several years old.
All that to say, we hope that you’ll come out to our Beach Drop for Sea Turtles on July 12! It’s family friendly, kids will have a chance to do an interactive nest inventory and you never know what Captain Chris is going to do. All of the money will go directly to fund the sea turtle program in Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge.
