Join us on Saturday, October 3 for one of Berry’s most iconic and heartfelt traditions!
Students will parade down the mountain accompanied by live music. It’s a celebration of connection, legacy, and giving back. Students participating in the Grand March should line up by 12:45 PM.
Each student brings a number of coins equal to their age to drop in the special basket at the bottom of the mountain, a tradition started by Martha Berry’s early students as a birthday gift. Today, those coins support the Save a Student Scholarship, helping fellow Vikings in need. Every cent counts!
The March Pattern:
First pass: single file
Second pass: pairs
Third pass: groups of four
Then: groups of eight
Finally: groups of sixteen
This beautiful visual of growing unity is a favorite for spectators and a meaningful experience for participants.
Students are encouraged to wear specific colors which represent the uniforms that Berry students wore in the earlier years of the school.
Historically, Senior women have worn pastel blue dresses or blue shirts with skirts, pants or shorts and senior men wore white shirts with pants or shorts.
Junior, Sophomore and Freshman women have worn pastel pink dresses or pink shirts with skirts, pants or shorts, and the men have worn light blue shirts with pants or shorts.
Although the Grand March colors were assigned in the past based on gender and classification, students may opt to dress in their best Berry gear.
Led by your SGA officers carrying the official Berry banner and flags, we’ll gather at the base of the mountain to sing the Alma Mater and present the gift of coins, as a symbol of how small acts of generosity build a stronger Berry community.
