If you get up after the sun, the world has already started to influence you. If you get up before the sun you influence the world.
6:00am student athlete group has been packed.
Every day.
We used to have 6pm session for inseason kids. But we cut it from the schedule.
1- our coaches like our families and are here at 4am we don’t need to be here until 7pm.
2- Everything we do is based on science and has a purpose. Sessions purchased expire not because we want to scam people but because if you aren’t consistent you don’t get better. We don’t have “football only” sessions to sell more flashy 10 week camps because your junior high football player needs the same physiological qualities as the dance girl (we still modify and individualize, but you get it).
If you’re inseason, 6am is the best time slot. You get 3-4 fueling sessions in and recovery before practice. You can maximize both your training and skill work. But if you come in right after practice it’s basically just a recovery lift every time.
3- a lesser important point but worth noting nonetheless, I teach at a college. The amount of kids incapable of waking up before 10am is astounding. Getting up early to attack the day is an absolute life skill.
So when people say they “don’t have time” to train or parents who say “we can’t make the time slots” what I hear is “it’s not actually a priority to me” and “I’m not willing to invest in my kid enough to drive them there at 5:30am”
Too much tough love? Maybe. But I don’t have time to consider if it was too harsh or not because we’re here getting reps in before the sun comes up.
Disclaimer - I know some of you have early morning practices and school weights etc. I know some of your jobs start early and you can’t bring them. But also know that for most the above message isn’t wrong.

“You realize no other gyms do workouts this hard right? You should be really proud of yourself.”…. “Yes, I’ve gone to every gym in the area but do you realize no gym would be able to motivate me to show up to a workout like this? That’s the real difference.”
“Workouts like this just remind me how much stronger my mind is than I give it credit for. When complaining about my regular workouts, I can remember that they’re not as hard as this, and even if they are I can do both.”
“When I see this many people show up from all the other time slots, it’s a real humility check that this is a lot bigger than just me. Everyone’s going through everything together.”
Have I mentioned how much I love our free holiday community workouts? I’ve joked that interns, new coaches, and even new athletes shouldn’t be allowed to join until they experience one. They’re the perfect summary for who we are.
This workout was made for Camden Kasel farewell workout before he left for the Marines. The prior year he did our training. He also trained distance running with one of our members. He also trained pool workouts with one of our other members. I personally didn’t allow him to beat me in deadlift or assault bike just to push and motivate him (yes Cam, I will never drop it 😂). The fam came together and helped send him off over prepared for the physical requirements of boot camp.
And then created a workout that’s a little bit better and also a little bit worse than a Hyrox to name after him.
This workout started with him, but it’s also to honor all those who are in military, law enforcement, and first responders past present and future.
It’s bigger than you. It’s even bigger than the BRFamily as a whole. It’s about doing things the right way, giving back to others, and having immense gratitude for those who make days like today possible 🔥

🚨 1000+ workouts for Kelley Jackson Ward !!
Realized I never hit send on this post!! Kelley is the absolute definition of our brand. And I can’t wait to explain why 🔥
Consistency Wins- she’s had seasons where she could come 4-5 times/week deadlifting more than any other female crushing it…. And she’s had seasons where life got insanely busy, she had to have surgery for a work injury that never got better, she had grandkids to watch and go visit…. But despite the frustrations, how hard it was, the speed bumps, she just kept showing up trusting the process. A year ago was ankle surgery and last week she deadlifted an all time PR of 300lbs.
Training is for life goals - like all of us she started with some aesthetic goals she wanted to achieve. Nothing wrong with that. But we forget that exercise and trainings primary purpose are quality of life and health span. Kelley went from someone who didn’t like to sweat because it messed up her makeup to someone who’s chasing health and fitness goals of being an active grandma hitting range of motion PRs and constantly pushing out her comfort zone! Including more hip and ankle ROM only a year post surgery than she’s had her entire life.
The BR Family- she came with me from my prior employer. Followed me to a tiny garage in another town, to a bigger garage, and now here. She’s seen every coach, every intern, every business change and shift. She’s still here through it all because at the end of the day what makes this place great, are athletes like her.
Thank you Kelley. For everything. 🔥

🇺🇸 Join us Monday for a free workout!
Warning- this is basically a hyrox but a little bit better and also a little bit worse at the same time.
Good news- modifications will be available as always, and we had people who have never done anything close to this complete it last year.
This workout was originally made as a send off for one of our athletes who trained here preparing for the United States Marine Corps . It was so good we decided to keep it on the schedule not just for him, but as a small tribute of our appreciation for all those serving in our military past present and future!
Current athletes sign up but I’ll cancel you out the day of so you can use that session another time.
If you’re busy, it’s all good.
If you’re scared, that’s not an excuse.
Be there.

🚨 Scroll to see some impressive humans.

Heather Walter with 100+ workouts! Heather had tried plenty of things in the past, but when life got busier and her back pain got worse wanted somewhere that specialized in working with injuries and had the accountability and flexibility for her crazy schedule! She’s been crazy consistent and the results paying off!
She’s one of the many moms whose daughter also trains here. Which is probably even more cool than her consistency is that she’s leading her family by example and it’s paying off. She’s highly competitive, a good source of energy (and sarcasm) and always a great workout partner!

lehoyland with 500+! She’s one of our crazy consistent 5:30am athletes. She’s good for a consistent 4x/week or more throughout all the seasons regardless of how busy life gets. She’s found that doing it in the morning not only helps remove the excuses but start the day in the best way possible.
She’s getting crazy strong, and always pushing herself out of her comfort zone. Examples are this past few months she’s been super intentional about doing more cardio classes and monitoring her heart rate to push as hard as she can!

Melissa Perry White is a breast cancer survivor who can now chest press 30-40lb dumbells with ease. Do I even need to type anything else?!?
She has a great attitude. Loves to push. And is an amazing encourager. An absolutely fantastic add to the early morning crew this past year!

Ashley has battled a cranky shoulder from life plus being a dental hygienist forces her back in weird positions all day. When she started they actually thought she might have Lupis. She could do an rdl with an empty barbell and maybe not have back pain the next day.
Last week she deadlifted 200lbs. Definition of consistency paying off! But her biggest win she will tell you is what it’s done for her mentally. Confidence energy and just feeling healthy is an absolute gamechanger that many people forget about (ps that’s what fitness is actually about).

Sarah clocking in her first 100 workouts and has also had a total transformation mentally and physically! Our type of training definitely out of her comfort zone but she

Thanks to a generous donation, we will be replacing the dirty, partially functioning, dollar store clipboards.
These are 🔥.
TBD if we will trust the junior high boys to use them or not. Most likely not. But they’ll be allowed to look at them.
Also we will check them for fingerprints and run background matches if smudged 😂.
I know you didn’t want credit but it’s too awesome a gift to not give it.. thank you Gary!
Our athletes are so generous. The mentality of giving back to help make the experience better for the next person is absolutely my favorite part of this culture.

Year after year August brings in a massive change here at the gym. The obvious being our time slots shift around because the student athletes now have to go back to studenting. But the behind the scenes change is what we see with general attendance. And this shift is where we see a massive domino effect in both a positive and negative direction for all of our athletes.
Many student athletes switch to inseason so they stop training. You have 5 days without training top end speed with specific sets reps rest and 15 days for max strength before it starts going away. What you’re doing in PE or school lifts almost always isn’t that. You’re getting weaker and slower. Quality training won’t make you sore for practice. But they say they’ll start once seasons over. it rarely happens. When we see them 3 months later or the following summer their vertical exit velocity maxes etc all back to where it was before they started training, plus they usually now have an inseason developed overuse injury we have to fix before we can make improvements again.
The adults are trying to adjust to an absolute whirlwind of their kids new and ever changing schedules. The emotional and physical stress has some people shift the gym to an “if time category”. They take a few days off, and suddenly it’s holiday season so may as well throw in the towel for that and start fresh in January….
But we also see the month of August bringing out the absolute best in some people. Those who make training a priority despite being busy, lay the foundation to absolutely demolish old goals and records and past potential once life gets a little easier.
“Once the seasons done. Once my kids get back into school for a few weeks. Once this report at work is finished. Once I get my diet in check then I’ll…..”
Remember how you’ve been saying that your entire life? News flash. Life isn’t going to get easier or less busy.
Good news. You can make different choices. You don’t have to break promises to yourself. Learn to prioritize it when life’s busy and when life gets even harder you’ll already have the habits built to not quit.
What statistic will you be?

Many of you have asked if we will keep the old bar out and available. We will leave it out. But it’s complicated.
Here is your answer.
This bar reduces range of motion by 4+ inches. You only get stronger in the range of motion you train. For some of you who are under 6’ this means your deadlift or split squat motion is almost cut in half.
Because we want you to be able to get up off the ground without assistance someday when playing with your grandkids. We aren’t budging on this.
The new ones hurt your hands? That’s potentially because you haven’t been consistently lifting heavy enough. Or maybe you do but it’s still just uncomfortable. Thats why you’re here? To get uncomfortable? Remember?
The extra grips important. Lose your grip and you lose your back positioning. We don’t want you getting hurt. We promised you we wouldn’t.
In summary? We aren’t going to break our promise to make sure we are training based on science and doing movements the right way or our promise to not let you get hurt.
Are you going to keep your promise of getting uncomfortable?
Oh and PS- the best part about strength training… is the weights never care about our feelings. You get out what you put into it. Lift the weight.
