I thought about posting my remembrances of 9/11…. I was going to post about why does it take tragedy to bring us together. I was going to question why we let the pandemic, after a few weeks, tear us apart instead of standing united.
We were going to post that 9/11 was also the 1 year anniversary of summit day on Kilimanjaro with the Myimpossible.mk team. And how 9/11 will now always bring up a flood of mixed and tangled emotions for many of us.
But this. THIS. Right here. A group of men who likely never would have crossed paths, met at F3 Morris County - The Ward as part of F3 Nation… and here we are, 5 of us, stupidly running 13 miles in torrential rain in prep for a half marathon in October where we’ll be running with another ten or so guys all from F3… because that’s fellowship.
We can choose to find we what divides us. That’s easy to do. Just look on this platform, at comments and trolls and the behind the screen bravados. Pop on media if you’d like to find who “the other” is that you should blame because they must be the ones at fault for whatever you’re angry about. Divide. Distract. Dominate.
Or we can get busy living and standing together, forming the type of fellowship and kinship that this country stood for in times past. Lending a hand to one in need. Sheltering those who are weathering storms in their lives. Looking past differences and seeing humanity (even in those who might make your blood boil with nearly all they do). And yes even receiving the help and support of another when you need it. Because it does take a village. And there was a time we understood that… and quite a few spiritual masters who have shown us The Way.
Need some brotherhood? Guys that’ll both challenge you and stand by you thick and thin? Guys who won’t let you fall but let you slack either? Men who will say, I see you, cut the ego s**t, and let’s get done what needs doing, together, shoulder to shoulder.
Come join an F3 group. They are now everywhere around the country and beyond. Well over 100,000 men — nearly all dumb enough to slosh and splash 13 miles in the teeming rain together, because we won’t leave a man behind and we won’t leave a man where we found him.
