A Message From Bruce & Wanda
As many of you now know, after many years, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to sell WRP Fitness.
For me, this gym has been home since 1998. For Wanda, the dream began much earlier, back in 1976.
Wanda started her fitness journey with a dream by teaching classes out of her garage. From there, that dream quickly grew. She moved her classes into a church, then to a studio on Canal Street. In 1994, she signed a lease in the front of the Monarch Shopping Center. Before long, she expanded into another storefront and added a weight room. Then in 1996, she moved into the space where the gym is located today.
What started as a dream became a place that has touched thousands of lives.
Wanda has always put her members first. She was a true businesswoman at a time, particularly in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when women were not always given a seat at the table. She believed in herself, worked incredibly hard, and refused to let anything stand in the way of her dream.
And she made that dream come true, because of all of you.
For me, my story with this gym started when I was just 16 years old. In many ways, I have spent my entire life there. I honestly cannot count the number of friends I have made, or the number of people who have become like family to me through this place.
WRP Fitness has always been more than a gym. It has been a place where people could come in and talk about sports, their families, their jobs, their kids, or whatever else was on their minds. We have seen you at your absolute best and we’ve seen you at your worst and through it all, we never judged you. We welcomed you, listened to you, and considered you part of our family.
We also want to thank the incredible staff members who have been such an important part of WRP Fitness over the years including, but certainly not limited to, Renee, Jamie, Judy, Kelly, Marjorie, Grace, Andrew, Anthony, Debbie, Josh, Adam, Rob, David, Florence, Jeanine, Val, Lin, Nikki, Santiago, Loraine, Aimee, Billy, Kenny, Nancy and so many others who have contributed to making this place what it is.
This is truly going to be a change for all of us. It is emotional, it is bittersweet, and it is certainly not easy to say goodbye to something that has been such a huge part of our lives.
But we also believe something very important:
The gym lives on.
We are happy to welcome the new owner, Tom, who will be taking over WRP Fitness. He plans to reinvest in the club and continue building upon what Wanda started nearly 50 years ago.
Our hope is that Wanda’s vision, her passion, and everything she worked so hard to build will continue for many years to come.
To every member, employee, instructor, trainer, friend, and family member who has walked through those doors over the years, thank you.
Thank you for trusting us.
Thank you for supporting us.
Thank you for sharing your lives with us.
And most importantly, thank you for making Wanda’s dream a reality.
We will always be grateful.
This may be the end of one chapter, but it doesn’t have to be the end of the story.
Thank you for everything. Now go have a great workout! ❤️
