We Will Never Forget!

Six months after this tragedy, we competed in NYC. Only a few dancers and their mothers attended. Everything was still so raw. The hurt and the loss was everywhere. Fences covered with notes of loved ones still searching for family members. Many business, blocks away from the twin towers, with windows blown out and signs posted on doors stating they were closed because their customers were gone. So much grief.

That was when I realized New York was my home too. An attack on one of us is an attack on all Americans. I will never forget!

Love this!

To the mom about to sign your little girl up for dance class…

You probably think you’re signing her up for a fun activity.

A pink leotard.
Tiny ballet shoes.
A few classes after school.

You’re not.

You’re signing up for hair buns that have to be just right.

More bobby pins than you thought one person could own.

Recitals that somehow make you cry every single year.

Car rides filled with music she insists on practicing one more time.

You’ll learn the names of steps you’ve never heard before.

You’ll spend countless evenings waiting outside a studio, watching her confidence grow a little more with every class.

Some days she’ll come out smiling.

Some days she’ll be frustrated.

Some days she’ll wonder if she’s good enough.

That’s when she’ll need you most.

One day you’ll realize she isn’t the little girl in oversized ballet slippers anymore.

She’s standing taller.

Believing in herself.

Taking the lessons dance gave her long after the music stops.

The grace.
The discipline.
The friendships.
The resilience.

So when she’s twirling through the living room…
Practicing in the kitchen…
Or asking you to watch “just one more time…”

Stop what you’re doing.

Because you’re not just watching a dance class.

You’re watching your little girl discover who she is.

And those moments are over far sooner than you think.

Dancers train so hard and are often their own worst critic. My advice is, “Find your joy.” I think she did!
I can’t wait to see Corey’s work with many more of our incredibly talented dancers.
