The team continues to break through barriers. They’re learning what it takes: work extremely hard, show up consistently, don’t question the workouts, believe in yourself, listen, and DO THE WORK.

Cross country is about pushing yourself farther than you ever thought possible… and then pushing some more.

Today, every Trojan who raced broke through another barrier.

Great day. Enjoy it.

Now we keep moving forward.

Next practice… LET’S GO! πŸ”΄βš«οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

I was asked yesterday, β€œWhat does it take to be a Monroe Trojan Boys Cross Country runner?”

The discussion I had with our team yesterday pretty much sums it up.

Being part of Monroe Trojan Boys XC means more than putting on a uniform and saying you’re on the team. We’re not here just to be here.

When you come to practice, I expect you to use that time to GET BETTER. Practice might be two hours, sometimes shorter, sometimes longerβ€”but every minute matters.

That means:

Push yourself. Pay attention. Lead. Encourage your teammates. Don’t mess around. Do the work.

If you’re joining just to say you’re part of something, this probably isn’t the team for you.

The formula is pretty simple:

RUN TO GET BETTER.
TRAIN TO GET BETTER.
HAVE DISCIPLINE.
BE CONSISTENT.
DO SOMETHING EVERY DAY TO IMPROVE.

Those lessons go far beyond cross country.

Someday the races will be over. But the discipline, toughness, work ethic, leadership and ability to keep going when things get uncomfortable can stay with you for the rest of your life.

That’s what it means to be a MONROE TROJAN.

MONROE TROJAN BOYS XC πŸ”΄βš«

Yesterday was another step forward for our young program. It was awesome to have the opportunity to line up and compete against some of the best programs in the state. That’s exactly the kind of competition we want our guys experiencing.

We finished 11th overall, but the biggest thing for us right now is continuing to improve individually and as a team.

πŸ”₯ 3 Personal Bests
Cole Butler β€” PB
Ty Davis β€” PB
August Johnson β€” PB

πŸ’ͺ 2 Season Bests
Conor Winters β€” SB
Carter Sharpe β€” SB

Chris Ban also finished just 7 seconds from his PB.

We also had three of our top five runners competing while recovering from illness. They weren’t at 100%, but they competed hard and gave us everything they had.

Gavin Rohr πŸ’ͺ🏼
Victor LeBrun πŸ’ͺ🏼
Rowen Bailiff πŸ’ͺ🏼

We know where our program is right now, and we know where we want it to go. There are no overnight fixes. We’re going to keep working, keep building, and keep chasing PBs.

Proud of these kids and thankful for the opportunity to compete against great competition.

Every Mile Matters.

Go Trojans! πŸ”΄βš«

πŸ‰ WATERMELON INVITATIONAL πŸ‰

Proud of these boys! βš”οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Our Monroe Boys XC team battled through some hot and humid conditions(right before the tornado warnings and storms) today and came away with a 2nd-place team finish against a tough field!

Team Scores:
πŸ₯‡ Wyandotte β€” 71
πŸ₯ˆ Monroe β€” 81
πŸ₯‰ Macomb Dakota β€” 85
4th Tecumseh β€” 86

We also had two personal bests today β€” Ty Davis and Chris Ban! πŸ”₯ And seasonal bests by Carter Sharpe and Victor LeBrun.

Today wasn't about the clock. It was about competing, staying tough when it got uncomfortable, and racing the guys around you. Our boys did exactly that.

We're still early in the season with a lot of work ahead of us. We'll enjoy the progress, stay humble, keep working and keep getting better.

GO TROJANS! πŸ‰πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

When it's 104 degree heat index and the rules say no one can train outside ....we figure out a way to get the work done!

Every practice matters!

πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ HEALTHY NUTRITION FOR HIGH SCHOOL RUNNERS

This is the basic nutrition guidance I was instructed to follow by my nutritionist back in my running days. Keep it simple, balanced and consistent.

🏁 BEFORE A RACE
Eat a normal meal about 3–4 hours before racing. Focus mainly on carbohydrates, with a little protein. Avoid heavy, greasy, fried or unfamiliar foods.

πŸ’ͺ AFTER A RACE OR HARD WORKOUT
Within 30–60 minutes, try to get some carbohydrates + protein to help refuel and recover. Then have a good balanced meal later.

πŸ₯— DURING THE WEEK
Runners need to EAT! Don't skip meals. Your body needs fuel to train, race, recover and grow.

Here’s a list of good foods for runners:

🍌 Bananas and other fruit
πŸ₯£ Oatmeal and whole-grain cereal
πŸ₯― Bagels and toast
🍚 Rice
πŸ₯” Potatoes and sweet potatoes
🍝 Pasta
πŸ₯š Eggs
πŸ— Chicken and turkey
🐟 Fish
πŸ₯© Lean beef
πŸ₯œ Peanut butter and nuts
πŸ₯› Milk and chocolate milk
πŸ₯£ Greek yogurt
πŸ₯ͺ Turkey or PB&J sandwiches
πŸ₯¦ Vegetables
πŸ₯€ Smoothies with fruit and yogurt
πŸ’§ WATER throughout the day

Race-day nutrition starts DAYS before the race β€” not a couple hours before it.

Train hard. Eat enough. Hydrate. Recover. Sleep. Repeat. πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’ͺ
