Effective April 30, 2026 and until further notice: Fayette Trail is now OPEN! Please be respectful on the private land - stay on the trail or risk the trail being closed.

The Cheese Country ATV Trail from Mineral Point to Monroe & the Pecatonica Trail from Calamine to Belmont is OPEN. The Fayette trail is OPEN! The road routes in Grant, Iowa, and Lafayette Counties are always open.

IMPORTANT TRAIL NOTICE: There are currently 2 marked detours on the Cheese Country Trail due to bridge failures (Bridges 32, 35, 40 and 47). NO USE IN THESE SECTIONS OF THE TRAIL IS PERMITTED AT THIS TIME. DO NOT TRESSPASS. Detour road routes are shown on our 2026 trail maps and below in orange. If you have questions, please contact Max Blackbourn, Trail Coordinator, Tri-County Trail Commission at (608) 776-4893.

NOTE: Currently 12-15 year old ATV operators are not legally allowed on the road route detours at this time, but an amendment to the Lafayette County Road Route Ordinance is in progress to allow operation by 12-15 year olds as long as they have their safety certification, accompanied by an adult (18+) and wearing a DOT approved helmet. We will post when that ordinance takes effect, probably in June.
