🌱 FIBER: It’s about more than just staying regular! 😉
We often hear that fiber helps keep things moving—and yes, getting enough fiber can support regular, healthy bowel movements. But fiber does SO much more for our overall health!
💚 Fiber helps you stay full and satisfied. High-fiber foods can help keep you feeling fuller for longer, which can make it easier to manage hunger and portions throughout the day.
💚 Fiber supports healthy blood sugar levels. Fiber slows digestion and the absorption of carbohydrates, which can help prevent big spikes and crashes in blood sugar.
💚 Fiber supports digestive health. It helps keep your digestive system functioning properly and promotes healthy bowel movements.
💚 Fiber-rich foods are nutrient-dense. Many foods that are naturally high in fiber also provide important vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other nutrients your body needs.
So, how much do you need? A general recommendation for adults is about 14 grams of fiber per 1,000 calories, which works out to roughly 25 grams per day for women and 38 grams per day for men.
🥦 Good sources of fiber include:
• Beans, peas & lentils
• Fruits—especially berries, apples & pears
• Vegetables
• Oats & other whole grains
• Nuts & seeds
• Chia & flax seeds
And remember: if you're increasing your fiber intake, do it gradually and drink plenty of water! 💧
