I’ll cut to the chase from the start, I did not qualify for the World Championships.

For those interested in knowing the story here it is. It starts back around May. I find out that I am unable to sign up during the 990+ tier because of the specific PDGA policy despite being high enough rated during the actual registration opening. (I was 989 in Feb. when I needed to be 990). Fast forward to this weekend, I got on the waitlist and decided to head up and try to get in through the qualifier. I felt good with my game and my knowledge of the courses since I lived there for a year and a half. The day of the qualifier came and it was riddled with thunderstorms all day leaving us ultimately at the course for around 14 hours. Why the qualifier wasn’t moved to Sunday or Monday, I will never understand. I played fairly well until hole 16 where I blew up pretty heavily. This would have taken me out of it if everyone finished the round but it was looking like the last card wasn’t going to finish. They had stated multiple times that they would have everyone play as many holes as possible citing the time of last daylight. However, by the end of it, they had pulled the last card off the course for a delay almost two hours before last light. We then waited around with clear skies for an hour before they ultimately called it early at 11 holes. The cutoff was even par to get in the playoff for the final qualifying spot, and I was +1 through 11. What is more frustrating is that I birdied hole 12 and was only 1 of 4 birdies all day on that hole. If they had played a few or even one more hole, it’s hard to believe I would not have had a chance at the qualifying spot. I was ultimately too far back on the waitlist as well and thus did not get to participate.

To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. I put a lot of effort, time and money into this chance and was dealt a really bad hand. I still hold accountability, I by no means played perfect, but to come so close and feel like you got scammed multiple times hurts worse. I’m sure there’s a lesson in this situation somewhere and I’ll keep looking for it. Good luck to all that are competing this weekend!
