Aikido of Missoula

Warren Little, long term friend and supporter of Aikido Schools of Ueshiba and Montana Aikido, passed Saturday evening September 19, 2026, at his home in Missoula, Montana, a month before his 96th birthday.

Warren was a well known and well loved figure at Aikido camps and seminars in Montana and throughout the United States. He was dedicated to Saotome Sensei and ASU and was instrumental in setting up the organization in the early days of the D.C. dojo. He even took Sensei and Patty on their honeymoon in the backcountry of his beloved Montana, and loved to tell the story of the newlyweds' surprise when they found he had taken only one tent -- and insisted on sleeping in the middle!

Warren was devoted to furthering Aikido in Montana, and worked assiduously over years to bring quality instruction to his hometown of Missoula. The door to his second floor studio was an image of O Sensei in etched glass. He was a great supporter and long term member of Aikido of Missoula, the dojo that developed after my arrival in 1990, and appreciated the stability of its sustained offering. In his later years he became a member of Mountain West Aikido in Livingston/Billings.

Warren was known for his heart of gold, sense of humor and strong opinions, and leaves many warm and unique memories with all who knew him.

Aikido of Missoula will be holding a memorial class for Warren Little on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 5:30-7 pm.

Just off Higgins, upstairs in the historic Union Hall, there's a space where Missoulians have gathered to practice Aikido for more than 30 years.

The training is active and engaging. The atmosphere is respectful and welcoming.

Together we practice movement, balance, awareness, and the ability to stay centered even when life gets complicated.
