Milwaukee Community Hockey League

Due to the unusual ice times this fall season, each team played their second and third games respectively this past week. How did that factor into this week 2, but also sort of week 3 MCHL rewind? Read below to find out!

Top Goalies:
-Benny and the Net: Corazon Goalie Benny Diedrich continued his hot streak facing 56 shots in 2 games and allowing just 3 goals. Even better for him, Corazon stays undefeated.

-No Swan Song Here: Puddler’s goalie Jack Swanson allowed 3 goals in 2 games. He also faced an absurd 102 shots and likely now has PTSD from getting pelted so often.

Top Performances:
-No Vander-missing the net: Nick Vandermissen came one goal short of an Ovechtrick (that’s nine goals) in Loomis’ win against BelAir on Monday. Really makes you wonder if he’s even trying out there. He’s got 11 goals on the season.

-It Was All Yellow: Looking faster than ever in those mismatching urine-stain-yellow colored jerseys, Clarke Moberg took a leak all over Elwood’s in a 4 goal, 2 assist performance as Corazon won 9-1.

-Budd Light: It was a complete game for Amorphic’s Michael Budd, who scored a goal in all three periods en route to a 4 goal, 1 assist night. The final result, a nice 6-3 win over Keystone Click.

-Sharing is caring: Stephen Richardson (Corazon) and James Ober (Elwood’s) both went apple picking as they each had three assist games this week. Richardson in the win over BelAir, Ober’s was in a loss to Loomis.

Top Teams:
-Corazon - 3-0 - They've won each of their games by at least five points, as the taco men keep rolling.

-Loomis - 3-0 - Last season’s champs have had a flare for the dramatic, winning both games this past week in comeback fashion by one goal.

Other notes from around the league:
-Goalie Carousel?: Keystone has used three goalies through three games. Is it due to inconvenient scheduling or internal locker drama? Because we’re always farming for likes, we’ll just say it’s the second option. Drop your hottest conspiracies about Keystone's goalie situation in the comments below!

-Unoccupied Sin Bins: Through three games, James Ober, Jeremy Hogan and Sam Gargulak lead the league in penalty minutes at 4 each. Surprisingly low numbers. Has Billy gone soft on us?

-George-ous Two Goal Game: George Bluvas scored twice in Water Street’s 3-2 victory over Keystone, and they’re offering a special this weekend at the Brewery to celebrate. Buy two beers at regular price and sit there thinking about George’s brilliant night while you drink them.

It was an eventful first week of MCHL action as teams took the ice at the Pettit and Eble. Let's step back and rewind as we look at all the highlights:

Top Performers:

-The Three Corazon Amigos: Tyler Schultz, Davis Allsop and Clarke Moberg each tallied a hat trick in their opening game. It’s even more impressive when you consider they all play for the same team, Corazon. You probably don’t want to know the video-game like final score of their game, but we’ll tell you anyway, it was a 10-4 win over Water Street.

-The BelAirian Point Raid: Another Mexican food based team had a great night besides Corazon, BelAir exploded for a 7-3 win over Puddlers, and a lot of their players had great nights as well. Nicole Unsworth, Jackson Buckley and Dan Asmuth all had three point nights.

-Two be or not two be: Not everyone wants to score a hat trick, sometimes two goals will do just fine. And this past week, Lori Highby (Keystone Click), Mike Pankowski (Water Street), Nicole Unsworth (you might recognize her name from the previous paragraph), and Dan Asmuth (hey, he was also listed above!) all scored a braces respectively.

Standout Goalies:

-Shutout Normie: Longtime MCHL standout, Brad Norman, played a standout game this past week for Keystone Click. Facing 27 shots, he saved every single one of them as Keystone beat Elwood’s 3-0.

-(O)Doyle Rules: Playing Loomis Road Dental Extractors goalie, Joe Doyle, was quite frankly, like pulling teeth for Amorphic, as they lost 4-2. Doyle faced 34 shots and saved most of them!

Welcome to the League: We love when new faces join the league. We love it even more when they make an immediate impact on the ice, here are some friendly new faces that wasted no time introducing themselves to the scoresheet (in SportNinja, these people are listed as being in their first season in the MCHL, if anything here is inaccurate, please let us know)

-Chris Hagen (Corazon): 3 assists in a win against Water Street.
-Aaron Turk (Keystone Click): 1 goal scored in a win against Elwoods.
-Stephanie Voge (BelAir): 1 goal, 1 assist in a win against Puddler’s.
-Danny Melvin (BelAir): 1 assist in a win against Puddler’s.
-R Mason Darling (Puddler’s): 1 goal in a loss to BelAir.

Other notables:
-Elwood’s was the only team to not score a goal during the first week. Womp womp. *Insert Price is Right Losing Horn noise here*

-High score: Corazon scored 10 goals on the day, basically making life for the scorekeeper a living nightmare. What’s craziest is that entering the second period they were down by two scores.

-Something in the Ice?: 24 goals were scored in the two Pettit games this week, while only 9 goals were scored in the two games that took place at Eble. Is Pettit where offenses shine? This small sample size says… yes!

The MCHL season is back! We begin a brand new session tonight. Although we’re playing a slightly unusual schedule in a variety of rinks, we’re excited to kick things off.
