I really enjoyed learning about the three African-American medical pioneers I hadn’t heard of before. I was also saddened and empowered by all they endured. It was a powerful motivator as to why we need to celebrate African-American medical professionals as there are still so many systemic issues that need to be rectified and healed. This book works really great as a reference guide because it is so heavy of a topic but also as a Book to read through to gain general knowledge and historical awareness. I especially loved how the writer didn’t just give us the awareness piece but they end on how do we go from here and what needs to happen for ongoing progress.
