FSR has been in great form the past month. I watched him make an impressive comeback in FL vs Manas in a see saw battle which showed me he knows how to fight when ahead and behind. He also has an aggressive high gear game but balances it with good percentage thinking. Sometimes he seems to be a little anxious or over excited but I think he’s tapered that down with age. Another big plus : He won the US Open before so he knows what it takes.

Capito to me is technically a little more sound. While FSR has the edge in experience of being in bigger moments with success, Robbie seems a little more calmer in his technique. Robbie is 25 and has the youth energy while FSR is 34 and has learned to taper and balance experience and enthusiasm. Capito took down Fedor from behind and keeps a winning record against him showing how dangerous his game is vs anyone.

What I don’t know is the head to head record which I was told FSR has the lead. That doesn’t always matter but that could be a factor still.

Physical technique they’re different in styles but equally matched in level. I’d give a very slight nod to Capito here.

If FSR gets into a high gear moment , he could run away with several games distancing himself from Capito. 3-4 game lead in this situation is huge.
But if it’s a equal battle with the balls layout not favoring either player , it’ll be close.

FSR as a proven US Open & World champion faces the pressure of can he win again. It’s a unique pressure and can create strong doubts.

Robbie has one major title with the UK Open which is a nice win, but doesn’t have the gravis of a US Open or WC. So this would be by far the biggest title he’s fought for. He also showed he can get rattled emotionally as the video highlight of his situation with the break foul vs Shaw. To his credit he came through still but you don’t want that kind of burden on you during a U.S. Open finals as it drains energy.

All in all , I predict it will be close. Either player has what it takes to win.

Last year was similar with Asia vs Europe in Yapp vs Fedor. I actually correctly predicted Yapp to win 13-11 as Thorsten Hohmann and I watched and chatted.

I think overall FSR has the edge mentally and physically if he hits that confident gear he will be hard to handle.
Robbie has to be patient and keep his cool beginning to end, which will be challenging as the younger pro.
In this one , it’s going to be power of youth vs experience of a very well rounded veteran. And FSR is not old by any means. In fact , he’s in his prime years where Robbie still has years before his prime. Which shows how impressive he is now.

Both of them knocked out the pre event favs in Filler & Gorst. Which was not shocking.

Verdict: FSR has the slight advantage in the finals.

But no surprise at all if Robbie wins.

If FSR wins , he will win by 1-2 games unless he hits a gear and speeds up then he could win by as much as 4-5 games.

If Capito wins , it’ll be much closer between 1-2 games.

It’ll come down to who wants it more.

Tune in and watch the US Open finals today. The two greatest titles to win in pool are the US Open and the World 9. Perhaps in that order depending. US Open is the older event over 40 years consecutively.

Nothing beats watching the best in person but on TV next best thing. Can still learn a lot.

“I cannot compare the environment I was raised in with the Williams family.

Early on in my coaching of Serena, Richard Williams tested me a few times. It started at Wimbledon, where he once entered the players’ gym screaming at me about Serena’s performance. As with Serena, I didn’t back down. And, like Serena, I eventually earned Richard’s respect.

Coming from Compton, a suburb of Los Angeles, Serena grew up feeling as if there was a target on her back. Her childhood was one of incessant danger. I think this explains the family’s superhuman levels of determination. Starting with Richard, the family lived as if it was on a mission of life or death. Tennis was the ticket out of the danger – it was the only ticket out. Serena carried this attitude into every match she’s played.

She saw it as a war. “Me or them, one of us is going home.”

Now understand that Serena had this attitude before she became the world’s No. 1. When she started, she played like she had nothing to lose and everything to prove. Being black in a white sport, especially playing in countries where racism was still very much alive and well, only contributed to this survivalist determination in her.

Life or death. It was Venus and Serena against everyone. If they lost, they were going back to Compton and there were more than a few people in the tennis world who would have been happy to see them go.

Then she became No. 1. Did it soften her mentality? Did it lessen her resolve? Please. Her rank only made it worse or better, depending on how you look at it.

It was important for me to understand this side of Serena, because it explains how she saw the world. This was her reality.
