La Vuelta arrived in another small town of just over 6,000 inhabitants: Xeraco. Agriculture has long been the backbone of the local economy, while only 3 kilometers away lies a major Mediterranean tourist hub that shapes much of the region’s activity.
What seemed like the only thing capable of taking the overall victory away from Pogačar actually happened today. A violent crash — a full forward flip — left him with a suspected fractured clavicle and facial lacerations, forcing him to abandon the race. A shocking and decisive moment for the 2026 edition.
The stage itself was marked by multiple crashes, including a final one just 500 meters from the line during a straight, one kilometer sprint. Amid the chaos, Bryan Coquard emerged victorious.
La Vuelta llegó a otra pequeña población de más de 6,000 habitantes: Xeraco. Su economía ha girado históricamente alrededor de la agricultura, pero a solo 3 kilómetros se encuentra un centro turístico clave en la costa mediterránea, que complementa la vida de la localidad.
Lo único que podía quitarle la victoria final a Pogačar ocurrió hoy. Una caída de vuelta de campana, con posible fractura de clavícula y laceraciones faciales, lo obligó a abandonar la competencia. Un golpe inesperado para la carrera y para el líder absoluto de la general.
La etapa estuvo marcada por múltiples caídas, incluida una última a 500 metros de meta en un embalaje recto de un kilómetro. En medio del caos, Bryan Coquard salió victorioso y se llevó la etapa.

La Vuelta reached the ski station in the Iberian massif, sitting 2,000 meters above sea level. This time, Aramón Valdelinares welcomed the peloton for the third occasion in its history.
It was a day for the breakaway. Andreas Leknessund managed to go solo and take the stage win, completing a 1 2 for Uno X thanks to Tobias Johannessen finishing right behind him.
The key moment for the classifications came from Wout Van Aert, whose third place earned him the points needed to take ownership of the green jersey.
Meanwhile, Pogačar extended his lead in the general classification, tightening his grip as the race moves toward Granada.
La Vuelta llegó a la estación de esquí del macizo Ibérico, situada a 2,000 metros sobre el nivel del mar. En esta ocasión, Aramón Valdelinares recibió al pelotón por tercera vez en su historia.
Fue un día para la fuga. Andreas Leknessund logró irse en solitario y conquistar la etapa, completando un 1 2 para Uno X gracias al segundo lugar de Tobias Johannessen.
Lo más relevante para la clasificación fue el tercer puesto de Wout Van Aert, que sumó los puntos necesarios para convertirse en el nuevo dueño del maillot verde.
Pogačar volvió a aumentar su ventaja en la general, consolidando aún más su camino hacia Granada.

La Vuelta reached the Mediterranean, arriving in Castellón de la Plana — a city of more than 180,000 inhabitants where agriculture, the ceramic industry, fishing, and tourism shape the local economy.
With 26 kilometers to go, on the climb to Puerto de El Bartolo and just before the gravel section, Pogačar shattered the peloton once again. A pleasant surprise came from Enric Mas, who managed to close gaps on the leader and stay close during the most decisive moment of the day.
The stage went to the Slovenian, and the rest of the podium heading toward Granada remains completely up in the air.
La Vuelta se asomó al Mediterráneo, llegando a Castellón de la Plana, una ciudad de más de 180,000 habitantes donde la agricultura, la industria cerámica, la pesca y el turismo sostienen la economía local.
A falta de 26 kilómetros, en el ascenso al Puerto de El Bartolo y justo antes del tramo de gravilla, Pogačar volvió a romper la carrera. La sorpresa positiva del día fue Enric Mas, que logró cerrarle espacios al líder y mantenerse cerca en el momento más crítico.
La etapa quedó en manos del esloveno, y el resto del podio rumbo a Granada sigue completamente abierto.

La Vuelta returned to Spanish territory, arriving in Roquetes — a small agricultural town in the Terres de l’Ebre with just over 8,300 inhabitants. The town is known for the Ebro Observatory, founded by Jesuits in 1904 and recognized for its geophysical and solar research.
Roquetes hosted an unprecedented stage finish: a full speed mass sprint in La Vuelta. Uno X moved to the front to support Visma, delivering a perfect lead out that allowed James M. Brennan to claim his second stage victory.
La Vuelta llegó finalmente a territorio español, con Roquetes —una pequeña ciudad agrícola de las Terres de l’Ebre, con poco más de 8,300 habitantes— como escenario del día. La localidad destaca por el Observatorio del Ebro, fundado por los jesuitas en 1904 y referente en estudios geofísicos y solares.
En este entorno se dio un final inédito: un embalaje masivo en plena Vuelta. El Uno X tomó la punta para ayudar a Visma, y el lanzamiento salió perfecto: James M. Brennan remató el trabajo y consiguió su segunda victoria de etapa

The peloton moved into Andorra, whose capital, Andorra la Vella, is a commercial and tourist hub with more than 24,000 inhabitants. It has hosted the start of La Vuelta on 12 occasions and is the highest elevation capital in Europe, as well as another well known tax haven.
What he couldn’t do yesterday, Pogačar did today with 50 kilometers to go. The move confirmed the purpose behind the work shown in Stage 2: the Slovenian wants to match Tony Rominger’s record, since no rider has won La Vuelta from start to finish wearing red since 1994.
The stage win and a gap of 3:21 over Primoz Roglic suggest he may be on track to achieve it.

Lo que ayer no pudo hacer, Pogačar lo hizo hoy a falta de 50 kilómetros. El ataque confirmó el trabajo que su equipo había mostrado desde la segunda etapa: el esloveno quiere igualar el récord de Tony Rominger, porque desde 1994 nadie gana La Vuelta llevando la roja de punta a punta.

La Vuelta remained on French soil, heading into the eastern Pyrenees with the ski station of Font Romeu as the day’s destination. A small mountain town of barely 1,800 inhabitants, Font Romeu is known for its altitude, its high performance training center, and for hosting the start of two Tour de France stages, in 1968 and 1975. Today, it served as the finish of Stage 3 of La Vuelta.
With 15 kilometers to go, the weather became the main protagonist. A sudden burst of hail struck the road, scattering the peloton and drastically reducing visibility. Just as Tadej Pogačar was preparing to launch an attack, he himself suggested that continuing on the road was unsafe for the riders.
After evaluating the conditions, the organization decided to neutralize and annul the stage, leaving Font Romeu as the site of an arrival without a winner — a day defined not by tactics, but by the force of the weather and the prudence of the race leader.
La Vuelta continuó en territorio francés, entrando en los Pirineos Orientales con la estación de esquí de Font Romeu como protagonista. Un municipio de apenas 1,800 habitantes, conocido por su altitud, su centro de entrenamiento de alto rendimiento y por haber sido punto de partida de dos etapas del Tour de Francia, en 1968 y 1975. Hoy, ese mismo escenario recibió la llegada de la tercera etapa de La Vuelta.
A falta de 15 kilómetros, el clima tomó el control absoluto de la jornada. El granizo golpeó la carretera con tal intensidad que el pelotón quedó desorganizado y la visibilidad se redujo de forma crítica. En el momento en que Tadej Pogačar se preparaba para lanzar su ataque, fue él mismo quien sugirió no continuar en carretera ante el riesgo evidente para todos los corredores.
La organización, tras evaluar las condiciones, decidió anular la etapa por seguridad, dejando Font Romeu como escenario de una llegada sin ganador, marcada por la meteorología y por la prudencia del líder de la carrera.

La Vuelta continued on French territory, arriving in Manosque — a small city in southeastern France with around 22,700 inhabitants, where the cosmetics industry drives the local economy. The longest stage of this edition finished with a gentle false flat in the final 5 kilometers, a terrain that stretches the peloton without breaking it.
James M. Brennan took the win… but the highlight was the setting: a discreet, industrial city far from the glamour of Monaco, where the race began yesterday.
La Vuelta siguió en territorio francés y llegó a Manosque, una pequeña ciudad del sureste con unos 22,700 habitantes, donde la industria cosmética es el motor económico local. La etapa más larga de esta edición terminó con un falso llano en los últimos 5 kilómetros, un terreno que estira al pelotón sin romperlo.
James M. Brennan se llevó la victoria… pero el detalle estuvo en el escenario: una llegada en una ciudad discreta, industrial y alejada del glamour de Mónaco, donde ayer arrancó la carrera.

For the first time, one of cycling’s three Grand Tours started in the Principality of Monaco. The opening time trial of La Vuelta showcased the setting where major stars like Pogačar reside — a territory where they can save up to 33% in taxes.
Speaking of Tadej, he won today’s stage and pulled on the red jersey as the first race leader… but the real protagonist was the tax haven that attracts a large part of the peloton.
