It was a gorgeous afternoon on the dock, with preparations in full swing for the opening of the race village and Public Welcome coming up on Saturday, August 22 at 14:30 local time ☀️

Lots to do before then, and we are busy ticking off tasks, then adding more and more to the list. Rinse and repeat. Nonetheless, as Guy says, progress is being made! 😎

Guy and Jean-Luc rounded the waypoint last night and are on their way back to Les Sables d’Olonne—they are holding position in the fleet ⛵️

🚨 FROM THE GGR: It appears that as many as 7 boats may not have actually rounded the designated waypoint, but this won’t be confirmed until after the finish when the race organizer can review the competitors’ navigational details.

This could really shake up the standings! Stay tuned for official results! ⚓️

Guy says it works perfectly fine, but if anyone wants to get him a new drill as a send-off gift for 8+ months alone at sea on a nonstop circumnavigation, this is definitely one item that needs to be replaced (from a team manager’s perspective!) 😬

Having a limited sail inventory on board was a challenge early on with the light conditions, but they are working hard with what they have and are moving up in the fleet! 💪🏼

The new sails are expected to be arriving soon and Guy can’t wait to have all of the tools at his disposal for the full race 🌍

🔥 Ready for the Prologue! 🔥

Racing to a designated waypoint 170 nm into the Bay of Biscay and back to Les Sables d’Olonne, the SITraN charity race is a fun event for GGR entrants—and it’s an opportunity to do a final shakedown before the start of the solo circumnavigation.

The prologue is expected to take ~3 days, and is not subject to the same restrictions, so friends/family can crew. Guy is joined by GGR photographer and friend Jean-Luc! 📸

Most importantly, the Golden Globe Race 2026 is fundraising for Sheffield’s Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN), to support pioneering research and breakthrough treatments for neurological conditions including MND, Parkinson’s, and dementia⚕️
