We are saddened to share that longtime Whirlaway employee Sam Verge passed away recently. Sam was one of those special people who made Whirlaway feel more like a family than just a running store. His infectious laugh and genuine care for runners and athletes of all abilities made him someone you would never forget.
Whether you were an experienced runner, just getting started, or somewhere in between, Sam had a special way of making you feel welcome and taken care of.
Sam left his mark on Whirlaway and the countless runners and friends who had the pleasure of knowing him. Sam’s personality filled the room, and when he laughed, it was impossible not to join him. There was nothing better than Sam singing Happy Birthday to each staff member on their birthday.
All of us here at Whirlaway are grateful for the 25+ years with Sam, especially the laughter, wisdom, and memories. Thank you, Sam, for being such an important part of the Whirlaway family. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
