Introducing Northshore’s Client Spotlight, Kevin! ✨ 👏

Kevin first walked through our doors at our opening party, and from the very beginning, he felt like part of the Good Moves family. 🫶

What inspires us most about Kevin is the way he keeps showing up. Even while navigating knee pain, he continues to move, work hard, and stay committed to feeling his best. 💪 Lagree helps him build hip strength and knee stability, while the VersaClimber allows him to work through range of motion with less impact on the joint. 🙌

But what makes Kevin so special has just as much to do with who he is as what he does in class. He is kind, positive, and such a JOY to have around. 🧡 Clients love him, instructors love him, and we are so grateful he found us.

Kevin, we’re so happy you’re part of the Good Moves family!

It’s Layne’s birthday!! 🎉🧡

Happy Birthday to our maximalist, full-of-love, full-of-life, full-of-joy Lagree instructor, ! To know Layne is to love her. She’s never met a stranger, and she’d quite literally give you the grip socks off her feet. 😂

You bring so much fun and personality to our team, and we adore you for it. Wishing you the happiest birthday and, obviously, an international adventure because staying in the country simply would not be on brand. ✈️💅

✨ CLIENT SPOTLIGHT ✨

Our first-ever North Shore Client Spotlight goes to !

Kelly is a third-year medical student, Lagree queen, and recently became Lagree Level 1 Certified after falling in love with the method. 👏 From the moment Kelly walked through our doors, it felt like she'd been part of the Good Moves family since day one. It was love at first class!

Here's why Kelly loves Good Moves: 🧡

“Good Moves has become one of my favorite places to be. I love that every class has new and exciting programming, so there’s always a new challenge waiting for me no matter how many classes I’ve taken. But the best part is definitely the people. The instructors are amazing! They make everyone feel so welcome, and they’ve created such a positive, encouraging environment. Stepping into a new studio can be intimidating, but GM is the kind of place that makes you actually look forward to working out. Between the instructors and fellow clients, it doesn’t get any better than this!”

Cool? Always. Funny? Obviously. Working at GM? Just the cherry on top. 😎✨

Maybe this isn’t as much of a “myth buster” as it is a call for a change in language. 👀

The specific tissue we are referring to when we talk about diastasis recti is the linea alba. It’s a thick band of connective tissue that connects the two sides of the re**us abdominis (your six-pack muscles!). Think of it as one long anchor point.

During pregnancy, hormones such as relaxin, probably the one you hear about most, affect connective tissues throughout the body by increasing their laxity. That includes the linea alba! Add a growing uterus in the abdominal cavity and you get a LOT of stretching and adapting of the tissue at the front of the abdomen.

Diastasis recti isn’t a “separation” in the scary, fear-provoking way that word can make it sound. It’s an increase in the space between the two sides of the re**us abdominis. That connective tissue becomes more lax, the anchor has more give, and there is less overall tension through that area.

There is not a large, gaping hole in your abdominal wall. That would be something different, like a hernia! And when you see coning, you are NOT watching a gaping hole get bigger or damaging tissue. What you are seeing is pressure pushing forward through an area of the abdominal wall that currently has less tension and therefore may not be managing that pressure as effectively.

So how do we increase tension and get better at managing that pressure?

WE STRENGTHEN THE ABDOMINAL WALL! 💪

That’s where having an instructor who understands pressure management matters. They can cue you, change the load or position when needed, and help you build strength, rather than scaring you into avoiding an exercise altogether just because you saw some coning. 🧡
