Happy one year anniversary to our very own Ms Joey!
It’s been such an honor to watch her step into her role as an instructor and teach the life saving skill of swimming.
Our swimmers are so lucky to have someone who is fun loving, caring, and encouraging in their corner.
We see the joy she brings to each lesson and the confidence she helps instill in every child.
Watching her build those relationships and help our swimmers believe in themselves has been so special.
Cheers, Ms Joey! We are all so lucky to have you!

The hardest part for many parents isn’t getting their child to jump... it’s resisting the urge to catch them. 💙
Notice what happens here: I give the cue, they jump, and I don’t immediately scoop them up.
Why?
Because this is where the learning happens.
✨ They learn how their body feels in the water.
✨ They practice finding the surface.
✨ They learn to kick and move toward a safe adult.
✨ They build confidence by realizing, “I can do this.”
Of course, this is only done when a child is developmentally ready, has practiced these skills, and has an instructor or parent within arm’s reach in a controlled environment.
The goal is to help children become safer, more independent, and more confident in the water.
Sometimes the greatest gift we can give a child is the opportunity to discover what they’re capable of. 💦
Safety Swim Challenge 🛟👟
We received a great question: “Why are the kids wearing clothes and shoes instead of swimsuits?”
The answer is simple… Because accidents don’t happen when children are dressed and ready for swim lessons.
Most childhood drownings happen unexpectedly, when a child is wearing everyday clothes. Wet clothing and shoes, feel heavier, great more resistance of water, and can make self rescue much more challenging.
As swimmers progress through our program, we incorporate our Safety Swim Challenge which is a fully clothed safety assessment designed to help evaluate whether they can use the self rescue skills they’ve learned in a more realistic situation.
This is never the first thing a child learns. It’s instructed only after they’ve build a strong foundation of water safety skills and are ready for the challenge.
Water safety isn’t about performing perfect strokes, it’s about knowing how to respond if the unexpected happens.
Reposting this with more context after receiving some thoughtful questions. We love educating our community about water safety! 💙

“Your child won’t fall in wearing a swimsuit and floaties”
Read that again.
Most water accidents happen unexpectedly.
After bedtime.
During BBQs.
Chasing a ball into pond.
While fully clothed.
That’s why we practice swimming in pajamas or regular clothes.
Heavy, wet clothing changes everything
•how the water feels
•how the body moves
•how fast a child gets tired
•and how they respond emotionally
But giving kids a chance to safely experience that feeling can build confidence, awareness, in real life survival skills.
Water safety is more than swim lessons…
It’s preparation for real life
Had you ever thought about practicing swimming in clothes before seeing this?
For some families, getting to swim lessons is the hardest part.
The transition the unfamiliar environment, the sensory overload packing up siblings, rushing across town… It can feel overwhelming before the lesson even starts.
That’s why we are excited to now offer in-home swim lessons across the valley and surrounding areas ☀️
We bring one on one swim instruction directly to your home pool so your child can learn where they feel most comfortable.
Especially supportive for:

Most kids naturally push away from the wall when they panic in the water.
But one small skill can make a huge difference: teaching them to reach UP and grab the wall. 🏊♀️
When kids know how to safely grab the edge, they can:
✔️ stop themselves from drifting away
✔️ move toward the stairs or an adult
✔️ stay calmer in an unexpected water situation
At our swim school, we practice this skill over and over because water safety isn’t just about swimming, it’s about knowing how to respond when instincts take over.
Parents are often surprised to learn that pushing away from the wall is the natural reaction for many young children. That’s why intentional water safety practice matters so much. 💙
Shoutout to Water Safety Mom for continuing to spread awareness about lifesaving swim skills and safer pool habits for families everywhere.
💦 “But my child NEEDS goggles to swim!” 💦
One of the most common things we see is goggle dependency. It’s when a child becomes uncomfortable or nervous swimming without goggles.
At our swim school, we actually wait to introduce goggles until a swimmer is already confident and independent in the water, and there’s an important safety reason for that.
Why? ⬇️
🌊 Kids need to learn how water feels on their face
👀 They need to practice opening their eyes underwater
💦 It helps desensitize sensory discomfort around water
🏊 Most importantly: if a child accidentally falls into water without goggles, they need to know they can still safely swim, float, and find the wall or an adult
Goggles can be a great tool later on, but early on they can sometimes become a barrier to building true water confidence.
If your child already loves swimming with goggles outside of lessons, try this simple balance:
👉 Swim half the time with goggles
👉 Swim half the time without them
This helps build comfort, confidence, and real-life water safety skills 💙
Ever see a kiddo shimmy sideways along like wall like a little crab?
That’s not just cute… it’s a life saving skill.
We call it “wall scooting” and it’s one of the most important things a swimmer can learn early on.
Why it matters 👇🏼
Instead of trying to swim across the pool (hello, panic mode), kids can:
✨Scoot to the steps to get out safely
✨Scoot towards a trusted adult
✨Scoot AWAY from something unsafe
✨Take their time and stay calm while holding on
It gives them control, confidence, and a clear plan if they were to fall in.
And the best part?
It’s simple, repeatable, and works even when they are tired or overwhelmed.
We practice it again and again so it becomes automatic, because in the water… simple skills save lives 💙
Next time you’re at the pool, try it out!
Hands on the wall, little side steps, and scoot scoot scoot your way to safety!
If your child is afraid of the water and has a struggled in traditional swim lessons, you’re not alone.
Some kids need a slower more supportive approach to feel comfortable in the water, and that’s exactly what we focus on!
We specialize in helping hesitant swimmers and kids with sensory needs build confidence safely and at their own pace.
We’re opening a few 2 week trial spots for swim lessons in Mesa so you can see the difference for yourself.
