Outside of club volleyball, Matt coached the American Leadership Academy Gilbert North varsity team during the 2023-24 season, leading the program to its first and only Arizona State Championship while earning Region Coach of the Year honors. He is passionate about developing athletes both on and off the court, creating a positive, competitive environment where players can reach their full potential.

When building a team, Melissa looks for athletes who are coachable, competitive, hardworking, and great teammates. Talent matters, but she believes attitude, effort, and the willingness to learn can take an athlete even further.

Off the court, Melissa is a math teacher, wife, and mom/stepmom to a big blended family—which means managing a volleyball team sometimes feels like the easy part. 😉

📣📣 13 BLACK HEAD COACH 📣📣

As a high school varsity head coach, I was honored to be named Coach of the Year while leading my program to back-to-back Region Championships, building a culture centered on accountability, hard work, and team success.

One of the most rewarding aspects of coaching has been helping athletes achieve their dreams beyond high school. Through a combination of high school coaching, club volleyball, and private lessons, I have helped more than 20 student-athletes (and counting) earn opportunities to continue their volleyball careers at the collegiate level. I believe every athlete has unique potential, and I am committed to providing the technical instruction, mentorship, and encouragement needed to help them reach their goals.

My coaching philosophy is built on developing complete athletes—emphasizing sound fundamentals, high volleyball IQ, strong work ethic, and positive character. Whether an athlete is striving to make a school team, compete at the highest club level, or pursue collegiate volleyball, my goal is to provide an environment where they are challenged, supported, and inspired to become the best version of themselves both on and off the court.

Coach Spotlight!! 🏐

Coach Sarah also serves as Assistant Club Director and has spent the past two years as the Director of Altitude’s Player Development Program, helping young athletes build confidence, strong fundamentals, and a love for the game.

This season marks Coach Sarah’s first year coaching the 12 Black team, and she is incredibly excited for the opportunity. She is passionate about developing athletes not only as volleyball players, but also as confident, hardworking teammates who learn to compete, overcome challenges, and enjoy the journey.
