🌪️ Meet Coach Chris! 🌪️

We’re excited to welcome Coach Chris to the Hanover Aquatics coaching staff! Chris will serve as our Senior Assistant Coach, working primarily with our senior athletes during afternoon practices while also spending time with other groups on deck.

Coach Chris brings an incredible 18 years of competitive coaching experience, working with athletes ranging from novice swimmers to Olympic Trials qualifiers. Throughout his career, he has helped develop State and YMCA National Champions and record holders, Junior and Senior National qualifiers, National Junior Team members, a U.S. National Team member, and Olympic Trials qualifiers. He was also the developmental coach of Olympic Gold Medalist and World Record Holder Zach Apple.

Chris has held numerous leadership roles in the sport, including Head Age Group Coach, Head Coach, Associate Head Coach, and Assistant Director of Competitive Swimming with YOTA. Most recently in the Richmond area, he served as Associate Head Coach with SwimRVA.

🏊 Favorite event: 400 IM
🎓 Education: Ohio State University — B.S. in Food Manufacturing & minor in Agribusiness
👨‍🍳 Fun fact: He also has a degree in Hospitality Management/Culinary Arts and is a classically trained chef!

Outside the pool, Chris is an avid reader, loves coding and building sports prediction models, camping, golf, BBQ, and spending time with his wife and three children. He and his wife are also huge Dave Matthews Band fans — with 39 shows under their belts!

Coach Chris believes every athlete is unique and that great coaching means adapting as athletes grow, while working in partnership with them to help them reach their goals.

🌴 SUMMER JUNIORS RECAP — IRVINE, CA! 🌴

What a way to wrap up the summer! Reagan Strohhacker, Michael Sabo, and Chandler Rose represented the Hanover Hurricanes at USA Swimming Summer Junior Nationals in Irvine, California! 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️

Competing at this level is a huge accomplishment and the result of countless hours of training, racing, and commitment throughout the season. We are incredibly proud of these three for earning their way to one of the fastest meets in the country and representing Hanover on the national stage!

A huge thank you to Coach Joe for his leadership, dedication, and commitment to ALL our swimmers—not only during this trip, but throughout the entire season. 🧡🖤

Congratulations Reagan, Michael, and Chandler on an incredible experience and a great finish to the summer! Now we turn the page and look ahead to an exciting new season for the Hurricanes! 🌪️

🌪️ MEET COACH MAKAYLA! 🌪️
Help us welcome Coach Makayla to the Hanover Hurricanes coaching staff for the 2026–2027 season! 🧡🖤

Coach Makayla will be on deck a few nights each week, working with our CAT 2 & CAT 3 swimmers during the 6:30 PM practice.

🏊‍♀️ Get to know Coach Makayla:

Makayla started swimming at just 5 years old, swam throughout high school, and continued swimming on her college club team. Her favorite event is the 200 IM!

Her coaching journey began at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY. She then coached with the New York Sharks age group team in Newburgh before moving on to Storm Aquatics in Westchester, NY.

🎓 Makayla completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Mary Washington, majoring in Environmental Geology with a minor in Environmental Sustainability. She is now beginning her Master of Urban and Environmental Planning at Arizona State University. Her dream job outside of the pool is to become a Principal Planner!

When she’s not on the pool deck, Makayla loves cross-stitching, weightlifting and crafts — and she keeps a very detailed spreadsheet to track all the books she reads! 📚

We’re looking forward to having Coach Makayla on deck and can’t wait for our swimmers and families to get to know her!

💲 $85/month for the first swimmer | $65/month for each additional sibling
🏅 Optional swim meet opportunities available (but never required!)

Swimmers must be comfortable swimming one length of the pool using both freestyle and backstroke.

This trip marks a special milestone for Hanover Aquatics, as it’s the furthest distance Hurricanes have ever traveled to compete in a meet in our team’s history. What an incredible opportunity to represent HNVR on one of the biggest stages in 18&Under swimming!

We are so proud of everything these three have accomplished to earn their spot at Junior Nationals, and we can’t wait to cheer them on all the way from the East Coast. 🌊📣

🌪️ Summer Spotlight: Erin Farrell 🧡🖤
We’re wrapping up our Summer Spotlight series with Erin Farrell from CAT 5!

Over the past two seasons, Erin has made incredible improvements in the pool. As a high school swimmer, making the kind of time drops she has is a huge accomplishment and a testament to her dedication, consistency, and work ethic. She continues to show that with commitment and the right team around you, there is always room to grow.

Erin says her favorite part about being a Hurricane is being able to challenge herself, set goals, and achieve them alongside the teammates who surround and support her. She credits her improvement to a combination of personal discipline and the motivation she receives from her teammates every day at practice.

If she were convincing a friend to join Hanover, Erin says the team becomes like a family—one that motivates and challenges you to be your best while still making every day in the pool fun.

Thank you, Erin, for being such an important part of the Hurricane family! We can’t wait to see what your hard work leads to next, and we’re excited to cheer you on throughout your next season and beyond.
