Someone at the gym told me the other day:

"I really enjoy talking to you. You get me to bring up good questions."

And that stuck with me.

Because earlier that day I had decided to skip the time I normally use to reach out to people about coaching.

I chose to do something else instead.

And then later, almost by accident, I ended up having the exact kind of conversation I had given up time for.

Funny how that works.

Sometimes the thing we're looking for is already happening around us.

We just have to slow down enough to notice it.

New here?

If you’re a new follower, I’d actually love to meet you.

Not to sell you anything.

Just a quick 15-minute conversation over Google Meet so I can learn a little about you, what brought you here, and what you're working through.

I spend a lot of time talking about behavioral change, but I think it’s easy for social media to make people feel like they know you without ever actually talking to you.

So let’s change that.

If you’re interested, send me a DM with “15”

Every decision costs something.

Sometimes it's money.

Sometimes it's time.

Sometimes it's energy.

And sometimes you don't realize what you traded until later.

I've been thinking about that a lot tonight.

Not because I regret everything I did today.

Just because I think I could've been a little more intentional about what I was choosing.

I've learned that systems are great.

They keep you organized.

They save mental energy.

They make busy days manageable.

But systems only work when you actually use them.

I got lazy with one of mine.

And eventually that small decision caught up with me.

It's funny how something that takes 10 seconds to do can save you an hour of fixing things later.

One mistake can teach you more than you expected.

I made a mistake at work today.

It was fixable. Nobody was seriously affected. Everything will be okay.

But the mistake that actually stayed with me wasn't the one involving work.

It was realizing that earlier in the day, I had traded something that matters to me for something that simply sounded more fun in the moment.

And it got me thinking about how often we do that without realizing it.

Every decision costs us something.

Sometimes it's time. Sometimes it's energy. Sometimes it's an opportunity.

The question isn't whether we should always make the "right" decision.

It's whether we're paying attention to what we're actually choosing.

I wrote a little more about what happened and what it made me think about.

One Mistake…

It's up on Substack now.

I made a pretty big mistake at work yesterday.

Wrong folder.

Wrong information.

Wrong card.

Thankfully, I caught it immediately and everything will be fine.

But that's not actually the mistake that's bothering me tonight.

The one bothering me was playing pickleball.

Not because I shouldn't have had fun.

But because I traded something I really value for something that, in the moment, seemed more important.

Sometimes the mistake isn't what you did.

It's what you quietly gave up to do it.

There’s a big difference between holding yourself accountable and beating yourself up.

One comes from a place of curious observation. Looking at what happened so you can adjust. The other just leaves you bruised and less likely to try again tomorrow.

What would change if you met your next mistake with curiosity instead of judgment?

Real awareness rarely comes from pushing harder. It usually comes from slowing down enough to notice what’s already happening.

You can’t see what’s at the bottom of a lake while the water is still churning.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do for your goals is just sit quietly by the water until it settles.

We spend a lot of time trying to fix habits we don't like.

What’s interesting is that almost every behavior served a good purpose at some point. It protected us, saved us energy, or helped us get through a tough season.

Instead of fighting an old pattern, I wonder what happens if we just thank it for what it did, and gently ask if it’s still needed today.
