Pranayama - Standing Deep Breathing Posture #1 🧘‍♂️
Guru says: "Inhale until you feel dizzy."

Have you ever wondered why we begin our 90-minute hot room journey with Pranayama Deep Breathing? A powerful mythos behind this sequence blends modern Bishnu Ghosh / Bikram lineage folklore with ancient Vedic philosophy.

The 80/20 Rule
In our tradition, the story goes that the average person survives by using only a meager 20% of their lung capacity in daily life, leaving 80% dormant. Opening Pranayama is the ultimate remedy. By synchronizing a strict 6-second inhale and exhale, you stretch intercostal muscles to wake up that sleeping 80%, flooding your body with freshly oxygenated blood and flushing out toxins before your first asana.

The 80/20 Technique in Backbends
Later, in demanding postures like Camel Pose, we apply the 80/20 breathing technique. Exhaling completely in a deep backbend strips your spine of structural support, causing your body to panic. Instead, you inhale to 100%, enter the pose, and keep lungs 80% full to create an internal pressurized cushion—exchanging only the top 20% through tiny, controlled sips of air through the nose.

The Upanishads & The Great Dispute
Where does this reverence for breath come from? It traces back thousands of years to the Upanishads and the Vedic story of the Great Dispute. The sages tell of a time when the five faculties—Mind, Speech, Sight, Hearing, and Breath (Prana)—argued over who was supreme. To settle it, they left the body one by one. When Speech, Sight, Hearing, and Mind left, the body survived. But the moment Prana began to depart, the other faculties lost power and were violently uprooted. Terrified, they begged Prana to stay, conceding Breath as the supreme master.

Prana is the original life force. You cannot tame an erratic mind directly, but by harnessing your breath, you bring the nervous system to heel. Breath control is the foundation of physical and mental mastery.

Control your breath, control your life. See you on the mat! 🧘‍♂️💦✨

The Sacred Arc of Toe Stand (Padangustasana) Posture #12. Guru says, "Don't move your eyes, dont blink your eyes"

In Vedic tradition, physical balance mirrors inner stillness. Padangustasana traces its roots to ancient forest ascetics and the divine bird Garuda.
Legend tells of Garuda’s journey to retrieve the elixir of immortality (Amrita). To bypass scorching flames and venomous serpents, Garuda landed on Mount Meru, drew his wings inward, and balanced on the tip of one foot. By collapsing his physical presence into a single point of concentration, his mind became unshakeable. The serpents were pacified by his quiet energy, allowing him to pass untouched.
When you rise onto your toes in Padangustasana, you channel Garuda’s legend—withdrawing external distraction to find complete stillness within.
As the final standing posture in the 26&2 Hot Yoga series (Bikram, Gosh, Barkan, Sanchez), Toe Stand serves as a vital bridge between standing effort and floor-based integration: Single-Pointed Focus (Ekagrata): Demands total presence. The moment the mind wanders, balance shifts. Energetic Balance: Harmonizes grounding downward force (Apana Vayu) with uplifting upward energy (Prana Vayu). Ego & Humility: Returning to the pose after falling teaches patience, resilience, and detached self-awareness.

Deeply strengthens collateral ligaments, ankles, and knee joints while increasing toe and heel flexibility.
Activates and strengthens the plantar fascia and foot muscles, helping prevent or correct flat feet.
Opens the hip joints, releasing chronic tension in the lower back, glutes, and IT bands.
Enforces a straight spine from tailbone to crown, building core stability and pelvic balance.
Helps soothe chronic stiffness in lower-body joints and calms the nervous system through focused breathing.

Tuladandasana - Balancing Stick Posture #7 Guru says, "This posture is only 10 seconds - Every muscle contracted."

The name Tuladandasana is derived from three Sanskrit roots: Tula (the scale or balance), Danda (the staff, rod, or stick), and Asana (posture).
In ancient Hindu mythology and cosmology, Tula represents the cosmic scales of justice, held by Yama, the guardian of Dharma (universal truth, moral law, and righteousness). These scales weigh the karma, actions, and virtues of every soul, symbolizing the delicate balance required to maintain order across the universe. The scale reminds us that every action carries equal weight and consequences, demanding absolute equilibrium between opposing forces—light and dark, expansion and contraction, effort and ease.
The Danda represents the unbending staff of discipline, wisdom, and spiritual authority carried by ancient sages and ascetics. It signifies an unwavering spine and a mind cleared of distraction, serving as a pillar of strength through worldly turbulence.
When combined, the posture embodies the laser-focused determination of the hero Arjuna from the Mahabharata. Before releasing his arrow, Arjuna saw neither the tree nor the target's surroundings, but only the tiny eye of the wooden bird he was instructed to strike. By reaching forward like a spear while rooting firmly into the earth, the practitioner steps onto the cosmic scale, embodying Arjuna’s single-pointed concentration (Ekagrata) and balancing life's dualities without swaying.

Cardiovascular Surge: Rapidly elevates heart rate within seconds, flushing the coronary arteries with oxygenated blood and expanding lung capacity.
Core & Spinal Strength: Deeply engages the entire abdominal wall, strengthens the spinal muscles, and builds strong lower-back support.
Total Body Toning: Tones the shoulders, upper back, glutes, quadriceps, and hamstrings simultaneously while building ankle stability.

Posture #9: Guru says, "Make sure hips don't go up anymore. STAY DOWN THERE."

In Bikram yoga, Triangle Pose (Trikonasana) embodies an archer drawing a bow, drawing on ancient Indian mythology and the warrior spirit of the Mahabharata.

The posture invokes Arjuna, the master archer and hero of the Mahabharata. Before the great Kurukshetra war, Arjuna faced emotional paralysis and doubt. Through Krishna's teachings in the Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna learned to focus his mind, align his purpose, and channel absolute determination.

The Bow and String: Your legs and torso create the sturdy body of the bow, grounded and immovable, while the arms extending in opposite directions represent the taut bowstring.
The Arrow: Your gaze, directed over the fingertips toward the mirror, acts as the tip of the arrow. It signifies unwavering focus (Ekagrata) on a single point.
The Pulling Action: Pushing one knee back while reaching the opposite arm up and touching chin to shoulder mirrors an archer pulling back a heavy bow with total control.

Total Body Toning: Strengthens and shapes the legs, hips, thighs, buttocks, and abdomen simultaneously.
Joint & Muscle Mobility: Opens the hip joints, expands the chest, and lengthens the spine while relieving low back pain.
Cardiovascular & Systemic Health: Demands intense heart and lung endurance, improving blood circulation and boosting metabolic health.
Organ Stimulation: Compresses and massages abdominal organs, aiding digestion and supporting kidney and liver function.

Guru emphasized that Trikonasana is not merely a stretch, but a fight between strength and flexibility. Just as an archer must balance tension and calm to release a clean shot, the posture tests the heart, lungs, and endurance, demanding full union of the body and mind.

WELCOME HOME TO OUR COMMUNITY

We build community because showing up as your true, unfiltered self is a sacred, spiritual practice.

We build community because when we gather the courage to face our deepest anxieties, self-doubt, and fear of not being "enough," we find a gentle space where those heavy burdens can finally transform.

We build community so you can know, deep in your bones, that you have a fundamental right to exist—exactly as you are—without ever having to squeeze yourself into the harsh, rigid molds of the world.

We build community to nurture and honor our unique gifts, helping one another bring meaningful, soul-driven work into a world that needs it.

We build community to gently wrap our hearts around the deep aching of separation, reminding one another that we were never meant to walk this journey alone.

We build community to practice soft humility—to loosen our grip on what we think love should look like, and instead let real, grounded love wash over us.

We build community, so our guarded egos can finally soften, opening our eyes to the quiet grace that flows through every breath and every moment.

We build community to let ourselves be held by a peace bigger than us, discovering the quiet joy of walking through life in loving service to others.

We build community because, above all else, it opens our hearts to profound, unconditional compassion.

Here, you are seen. Here, you are safe.
Community reminds us that we are all beautifully, irrevocably ONE.
