Alumni Spotlight: Riley Ahlman 💗
“I started dancing at Deborah Case Dance Academy (DCDA) when I was 7 mainly in ballet. I was pretty involved at the studio, I participated in the Nutcracker and recitals and summer intensives. It was a lot of work but a lot of fun. Being at DCDA was such a big opportunity, not many people can say they’ve performed in the McAllen Performing Arts Center or any big stage. DCDA also brought renowned guest artists to teach at intensives and help with Nutcracker. These guest artists challenged me and pushed me to the next level. I loved it from the beginning, all the teachers are so welcoming and light-hearted making the studio a safe space. I know that these teachers care about me and my well-being, not just my dancing. At the studio I felt I could leave my stress and worries at the door and enjoy myself. I appreciate how at DCDA I could build great discipline like being prepared, good time management, and respect. As well as, make good friends and long-lasting memories.
Today I’m a junior at the University of Texas at Austin and I still do ballet. Currently I’m doing ballet with a student-led organization, and will be an officer of the org this year. Because of DCDA’s nurturing environment I still love dancing so much and love to come back to volunteer. DCDA is my 2nd home and I hope it can be yours too!”
