The scale isn’t always the best way to measure your health progress. If you have a significant amount of weight to lose, then yes, the scale can be a useful tool. However, for most people, changing body composition—reducing fat and building muscle—is far more important than the number on the scale. Losing fat while gaining muscle won’t always reflect the changes you expect in your weight, but you’ll almost always love the results that come from lifting weights, getting stronger, and seeing the physical transformations that follow.
