We started the fall session on Monday, so we're one week in. That's a good time to join.
Coming in a few weeks late is fine. Past that it gets more case by case, mostly because of where testing lands at the end of the session. So if you've been thinking about it, sooner is better.
The free intro class is one on one. Parents are welcome to stay and watch.

π₯ Training Thursday
Holding a stance while the instructor walks the line.
It looks like nothing is happening. Your legs will tell you otherwise. This is usually where the shaking starts, and the shaking is sort of the point. You find out how much of the position you actually own versus how much you were getting away with on momentum.
Not anybody's favorite drill. Shows up in almost every class anyway.

π₯ Technique Wednesday: holding the pad
The person kicking gets all the attention. The person holding is doing about half the work.
A good pad holder gives their partner a real target, braces so the pad doesn't fold on impact, and puts it where the kick is supposed to land instead of chasing where it's actually landing. Hold it lazily and your partner learns a lazy kick.
So everybody rotates through both jobs. You end up learning the technique from both sides of it.

βοΈ Tell Me Tuesday
What's the move your student practices at home when nobody asked them to?
We hear about kitchen kicks and hallway forms pretty regularly. Tell us yours. π

πͺ Word of the Week: FOCUS
Fall session starts this week, which means we've got some brand new students coming through the door.
Focus is usually the first thing parents tell us they're hoping for. We treat it as something you build, not something you either have or you don't. In class it looks pretty ordinary: eyes up, one thing at a time, finish the drill you started.
Some kids come in with plenty of it. Plenty of others don't, and those are often the ones who make the biggest jump over a session.

π₯ Technique Wednesday: balance β the skill inside every skill.
That kick? It's really a one-leg balance test wearing a costume. Three ways we build it:
1οΈβ£ The chamber pause β knee up, hold it, own it.
2οΈβ£ Eyes on a fixed point, not the floor.
3οΈβ£ Squeeze the standing leg β your base does the work.
Wobbling isn't failing. Wobbling is your balance getting stronger out loud.

πͺ Word of the Week: GOAL SETTING.
Every black belt you've ever met started as a white belt with one goal: come back next class. That's the secret β big goals are just small goals stacked patiently. This week, ask your student what their next little goal is. (And watch their face when they hit it.)

School Saturday π― Friendly reminder that taekwondo isn't just for kids. Our teens & adults train hard: real technique, real fitness, real self-defense β and a community that happens to kick. No experience needed, no judgment on the mat, and yes, you'll be sore in a good way.
Curious? Your first class is free β one-on-one, no experience needed: https://calendly.com/matthewstkd/freeintro?utm_source=Facebook&utm_campaign=adults-organic
