We (school staff, teachers, parents, coaches, trainers) are tasked with preparing teenagers for the real world, right? So what would happen in the workplace, if a non-Black employee was caught on camera making monkey noises and gestures toward, and calling a Black coworker the N word? They’d be fired. We all know that. So what are we teaching teenagers if an expulsion isn’t the result? Watching and reading the Frankfort community’s reactions have been troubling, and further proves why this needs to be handled more seriously.
