Ever wondered why we encourage our students so strongly to compete?
There are actually several reasons we believe competing is so worthwhile. For one, practicing and preparing for competition helps our students learn their forms better, with more precision and technical skill, than simply testing here, where it is easy to get comfortable/complacent. Performing in front of different people and different judges leads to increased confidence, as students realize they can do big, scary things. But also, the sense of community within our Summit Families grows, as you travel and cheer for each other's kids. It is such a unique opportunity to form really deep connections outside of our gym - with martial artists from other schools, even!
Competitors, what am I missing? What would you want to share with other students/families about the benefits of competing?
There is still time (though admittedly not much) before our next tournament, so if you are thinking about joining us, don't miss our open gym tonight! We would love to see you, answer any questions, and give you space to continue working on and perfecting your forms!
ALSO, PLEASE NOTE: Tonight's Competition class is only over forms and weapons, as we have Black Belt Testing afterwards!
