KEY WEST 🌞

I’ve only ever been twice, one night each time, both hazy from too much alcohol lol.

It was so fun to come back to celebrate my birthday with my favorite person and my doggie 15 years later. I didn’t realize how much history there is, and how it’s simultaneously super casual and regal. 👑

Josh gave me a million fun facts about it. 😝

We relaxed a ton - we had a pool + hot tub at our airbnb so we used it every day, tanned, read, ate snacks, and laughed.

We also walked Duval Street, Whitehead Street, walked by all the Southernmost things, got coffee, did the Hemingway house, window shopped, people watched, watched the sunset, went to Mallory square, ran, and saw Truman’s Little White House.

Dixie also got pet and complimented by at least 50 people, no joke. 😆

We ate at:

〰️ Half Shell Raw Bar
〰️ Conchiglia
〰️ Prime 951
〰️ Moondog Cafe (my fave - lots of GF desserts)

We got dessert at:

〰️ Wicked Lick
〰️ Kermit’s
〰️ Flamingo Crossing

and we tried drinks at General Horseplay.

The Keys are a whole little world that isn’t too far from Miami - can’t wait to go again. 💜

How many times have you gotten to the bottom of an ice cream pint and thought, “i just need one more bite.”⁣
⁣
Overeating plagued me for over twenty years. I used to HAVE TO eat as much as possible. If it wasn’t a huge portion, i didn’t want it and it wasn’t worth it.⁣
⁣
Dinners out meant all the appetizers, all of the entree, multiple desserts and drinks, and sometimes a second dessert.⁣
⁣
That was my idea of “fun”, but in reality it was hell lol.⁣
⁣
Waking up bloated, not proud of myself, vowing to start over tomorrow… until it happened again in a different form.⁣
⁣
Like being in the pantry looking for something else “just to finish things off” or “just one more sweet thing” or “oh wait, one more salty thing”, part of a never ending cycle.⁣
⁣
One day it dawned on me, if i was eating in chaos and distraction, was i really paying attention?⁣
⁣
I was so jealous of people who could take a few bites and move on, thinking they were restrictive and they knew nothing about pleasure.⁣
⁣
But pleasure accounts for the entire experience of something, not just during the few minutes that food tastes good (because it’s really only ever a few minutes!).⁣
⁣
Shifting your attention from chaos, frantic energy, disassociation with food also means healing the shame involved with thinking you don’t deserve moments of indulgence.⁣
⁣
Letting go of the guilt of having what you actually want - and really being present in letting yourself have it.⁣
⁣
Now, i eat sweets every single day and savor them completely - i never go overboard because a little bit is enough and i know with deep intimacy what it feels to go overboard, and i feel so good that no food is worth feeling that again.⁣
⁣
Because of this, i’ve regulated my emotions around eating with a ton of practice and know that the ending is going to come regardless, may as well do it at a point when i can still feel good.⁣
⁣
You can overcome the feeling of discomfort that comes with the endings - and learn to feel proud of yourself in the process.⁣
⁣
This is the “secret” of weight loss and maintenance, and it’s what i teach 1:1

The things that make me feel better are going to the grocery store to keep at least 1 meal/day similar to home, portion management (still having what i want, just in smaller portions), limiting alcohol A LOT (mostly not drinking), walking a ton, and getting in a few workouts. Those are things you can ALWAYS do - a workout or a ton of fiber are pluses, and i’m always looking for protein, vegetables, fruits. If you can’t get to a grocery store, have 2 meals/day instead of 3. That will allow you to enjoy yourself a little more than just ordering a salad at 3 meals. That way, you won’t hate yourself when you come home. Keep doing the things that make you feel awesome, don’t abandon all of those things just because you’re away from home - you deserve to feel good while you’re away, too.

I teach all of these skills and way more of them in my 1:1 program, The Body Lab, which opens up again for enrollment in October. You can love your life AND feel amazing at the same time. 🖤

Sounds counterintuitive, but it is the fast track to getting what you want. I always wanted to change my legs, arms, and abs - and they changed the moment i stopped obsessing over them and putting that energy into the steps and who i became as a result of showing up that consistently. 🖤

When I started to eat intuitively, I started with eating whatever I wanted. No limits, no structure, just doing whatever I wanted… and I gained 20lb lol.

I need structure, limits, end points. Those are what turned flexibility into the real freedom I’d always wanted.

Some people can eat “food as fuel” and feel peace, I’m not one of those people. This is the middle place for me.

You can lose weight and fit in foods you want - and I’d argue unless you learn how to do that, you’ll always be starting over and unsatisfied with how you feel + look.

Over time, you can build your metabolism up to be able to handle a lot of calories + carbs, that takes time + strategy.

But during a weight loss phase, calories reign supreme, and learning to adhere to that limit within your unique psychology is what you’ve been missing.

If you want to learn how to do this and really fix it forever - this is what I do 1:1 in The Body Lab. Spots will open again in October. 🖤

I used to say “f it” the second I’d leave home to go on vacation. I’d come home bloated, heavy, and SO tired, feeling like I needed to undo a week’s worth of indulging.

I did my best back then with the info I had, and if you’re only used to dieting, that IS what you do - but if I knew I could change things with a new set of skills I could learn - I would have done it 20 years earlier.

This takes consistency.
Practice.
Keeping an abundance mindset.
Being discerning + intentional.
Remembering that you are in control of your choices.
Speaking up if you need to.
Moving because it feels good.
Portioning things out because it feels good.
Not checking out with food.
Not “starting over Monday”.

This is how travel or any inconvenience never feels stressful to me anymore - I just plan my day around it and move on.

Chronic dieters always look for a way out.
People who can stay consistent are always looking for opportunities despite circumstances.

I can help you become the person who keeps the weight off once and for all - with macros + beyond. Spots for my 1:1 program, The Body Lab, will open again in October. 🖤

I used to have a complicated relationship with my birthday - I’d cry without fail lol, have high expectations that were impossible to meet and it was always very Virgo coded (critical!!).

Now, I do my best to stay in charge of my emotions no matter what happens and choose to have a good day. I plan things that I love that feel authentic to me, which mostly looks like doing what I normally do: working out, eating well, being with and hearing from people I love.

Last year I celebrated my 40th and did a little more - that felt fun for 40.

This year I reflected on the last year, tortured myself by running 6 miles because it does make me feel calm lol, got my free Starbucks drink, one of my closest friends came to visit me, I iced my cake, watched Allegedly on Netflix, and spent the day with Josh. He took me to my favorite restaurant and we ordered too much for 2 people.

As I get older, I’ve learned that you just really have to go for it, whatever it is, no matter the age. You don’t know how much time you have. Speak up, do what you want, give it all you’ve got.

40 felt like a new life to me - why wouldn’t i go full send!?

You’ll never actually feel ready to do what you want to do - but then you’ll start to feel unsettled when 5 years go by and you’re still in the same spot, telling yourself 5 years is too much time.

Don’t let the routine nature of life deter you from working hard to get what you’ve always wanted. Don’t let your attention be stolen from you when you could be directing it to things that matter.

Rest hard when it’s time to do that.

I always feel better when I’m in motion, excited, engaged, and an active participant of life than when I’m stagnant, stuck, or believing that everything bad happens TO me (that was how I felt for a good majority of my years).

We all have so many things outside of our control - but so many things ARE in our control, it just feels harder to take responsibility for them and DO the things that make us feel good.

By doing so, we can fight for the life we want.

I’m grateful for so many things - thank you for supporting me to do what I love every day. 💜

41 years old today ✨ I was scared to turn 40, but honestly i feel invigorated + excited about life and what’s to come. 40 was a new beginning where i looked forward to what else i can accomplish, i accepted myself as i am, and continued to trust my timeline. I’m grateful to do what i love every day, to have so many people i love around me, for my health, strength + resilience, and to have incredible examples of aging close to me, that inspire me every day. I’d rather be me at 41 than 21 or 31. It really does keep getting better 💕

I was the queen of kiiiinda doing something.

Looking for loopholes.
Shortcuts.
Giving myself an out at every opportunity.

And then I’d legitimately be confused as to why nothing changed.

Losing weight takes emotional and physical work/discomfort, absolutely. It can take a little time to get into the groove of things, to make sure you’re tracking things accurately, to find the baseline that you lose weight at.

It takes time to work through years of eating when you’re not hungry.

That’s not what I’m talking about here.

I’m talking about all of the frustration we feel because we’re not giving it our all. And sometimes it does make sense!

But ive learned that structure, consistency, and keeping your promises feels so much better than being one foot in, one foot out.

Even if it feels hard.

Humans thrive off of evidence. Sometimes we need to put in the work for a time period to really, intentionally, create it - for real this time.

The Body Lab, my 1:1 coaching program, will open again in October. DM me or apply at the l i n k in my profile Ashley | Nutritional Therapist + CPT. 🖤
