Splish splash.. a redhead takes a bath
My favorite diver duck to hunt is definitely the redhead. They are only in certain places (submerged vegetation) and are terrific table fare consequently.
This is an oversized hi density cork decoy. It has a textured cedar head and tail; and is painted in oils.

These redheads were an experiment with a different painting style.
The “bobtail “ style bodies were made from black cork with cedar bottom boards. I didn’t fill the voids in; rather, I just applied sealer and dumped sawdust on the wet sealer. I repeated that two more times. I didn’t sand the body at all, so a rough texture developed.
I used that texture to dry-brush paint basically the entire body.
I am pretty happy with the results. I hope to try this with some other species
