We are deeply humbled by the incredible turnout for the Schrock Strong benefit tournament! Seeing our community come together to support Dad (Doug) is something our family will never forget. It truly is amazing to not only see the community come together but to see businesses alike come together to support their own.

We would like to send a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this event such an awesome success:

Duncan Golf & Tennis for hosting a phenomenal tournament and providing a top-tier course to play on especially during this difficult, scorcher of a year!! We definitely understand what goes into it and appreciate all the hard work to make it happen!! Thank you Dakota and the whole crew!!

Wilkins Health & Rehabilitation Community for sponsoring the tournament and most importantly, for providing the dedicated care and rehabilitation helping Dad on his road to recovery. Thank you Tyler and the whole Wilkins crew!! He has made huge strides to recovery and we will be forever grateful for you all!!

Backporch Drafthouse - Duncan for hosting the dining fundraiser and giving back to our family!!

Also a huge shoutout and Thank You to our entire golf community, all sponsors, donors, and every volunteer who filled every slot, showed up, and poured so much work into this day!! It didn’t go unnoticed. Your generosity and kindness mean the world to Doug and our entire family!!

5/8 Update:

Dad/Doug developed a blood clot in his right leg. He also had a couple small ones they weren’t too concerned with in his pulmonary veins.

They performed surgery this morning and placed an IVC filter in his right leg to prevent that one from entering his pulmonary artery/veins. At this time they cannot do the anticoagulants (blood thinners) with the risk of a brain bleed. So at this time the filter was the best option.

He had a swallow test today and he unfortunately failed that. They will try again in a few days. This will be the first step to put in the Passy valve so he can speak. With the stroke he had it takes longer to get to get the nerves to react.

5/5 Update:

Some great news about Dad’s (Doug) recovery. He has been making incredible strides lately! He is regaining significant movement on his left side and even some on his right leg. The physical therapy team is working with him every other day to help him sit up and build strength.
One of the biggest wins is that he is off the ventilator and breathing on his own. We also got him a keyboard, which has been a game-changer; he’s been able to type out sentences to communicate with us. It’s also been helpful for coordination, though he does get tired after a while.
With all the progress, he’s been moved out of critical care on the 8th floor and into the step-down ICU. It’s definitely a huge step in the right direction!

4/24/-4/27 Updates

Sorry it’s been a roller coaster ride the last few days…

Friday he had gotten weak breathing on his own. He was still having a lot of secretion and blood from his trach. Ended up going back on the vent overnight.

Saturday he was very tired and worn out. He slept most all day and was very unresponsive to the nurses.

Sunday we had a great day! He was more alert than ever moving his left arm more and rotating his left foot in circles. Vent was on minimum settings all day.

Today: he has spiked a temp of 101.5 and very worn out again. He most definitely has an infection in his lungs that we are hoping they get under control asap. He was able to elevate his left arm and is wiggling his right toes. He is fighting with everything he has. We appreciate all the support, thoughts and prayers during this time.

Golf terms it’s like making that eagle then a double bogey on the next hole…
