With the heavy rainfall that occurred overnight, Indian Creek has come out of its banks and several parks that fall within the watershed are under water.

The following parks are currently closed:

• Thomas Park, 343 Marion Boulevard
• Prairie Hill Park, 5133 29th Avenue
• Boyson Park, 975 Boyson Road

In addition, the CeMar Trail, Boyson Trail and Indian Creek Trail are all closed, along with the trailheads at Parkview Drive and Hanna Park.

Please obey the posted signage. And remember, do not drive or walk through standing or running water or drive around barricades. Six inches of swiftly moving water can sweep you off your feet, and most cars can be swept away by less than two feet of moving water.

The City of Marion was proud to host the Iowa Parks and Recreation Association’s (IPRA) Park Maintenance Rodeo at Lowe Park on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Parks professionals from agencies across the state came together to compete in hands-on maintenance challenges, showcase their skills and connect with others in the profession.

Marion Parks and Recreation staff helped plan the rodeo, prepare the competition events and support the activities throughout the day. Some of them even competed, with Marion having 6 top finishers among the more than 50 participants.

Thank you to IPRA, our staff and all the participating agencies for making the event a success!
