A Great Aikido Seminar with a Twist

Thank you Aikido World Alliance for another fun-filled aikido camp. Aikidokas from across the Atlanta metro and the country descended on Aikido Association Atlanta for four days to practice. Amidst the guidance and instruction of Sato Sensei, there were a lot of learnings and laughs, falls and friendship, and throws and take-downs.

Special shout out to Lori Hargis-Johnson for her phenomenal pictures. I’ve included some of my personal favorites that I believe captures the essence of not only the camp, but also Aikido.

The twist was that one of Marietta Aikido Center newest members was there. With just about under a month of training, Ty Delbarrio, went onto the mat with truly a beginner’s mind. From other kyu ranks to senior level Dan ranks, there was patience and remembering we all started as a white belt. That's one of the things that makes our organization and art unique…the willingness to meet people where they are on their journey. It's not a competition, but a completion.

When asked about the seminar, he said that it was really cool and he was grateful that he attended. For me as a new dojo cho, I am proud of this young man as he begins his aikido journey. Stepping out of his comfort zone. Seeing the various skill levels and what can lay ahead with dedicated training and commitment. Welcome to aikido!
