Provide a quality diverse mineral supplement, because both bucks and does are seeking them out. I’d go ahead and start making your mock scrapes known to the bucks in your areas. This time of year bucks are taking notes. They smell and rub on licking branches. They’ll see and smell the scrapes. Generally they won’t p*e in the scrapes for another 6-8 weeks, but they will definitely work the limb. The main thing is passing on information to them that it’s there. Bucks that move out of their summer areas remember the scrapes and return. Likewise, bucks venturing out from other summer ranges will find them. In August as the testosterone climbs, the preputial gland will begin to produce an oily secretion in the pe**le sheath. Thats when bucks get busy p*eing in the scrapes. Also, the gland/organ in the roof of their mouth, vomeronasal organ, becomes very heightened to smells and tastes. This is different from the nasal gland. Bucks will eat the leaves off licking branches taking in information. That particular organ, also called Jacobson’s Organ, is the sensor by which they detect info about other bucks ( competitors) or a doe in Estus. The lip curl is for gathering info with that organ.

All that being said, it has been valuable for us to get the scent out there early. It’s definitely increased our buck numbers and activity in these areas.
