In 2016, the desire to continue to help raise funds for childhood cancer led The Mane Event to plan a benefit concert. The Mane Event will take place at the Mable House Amphitheater on October 16, 2016 at 5:00 pm. CURE was founded in 1975 in Atlanta, Georgia, driven by a stark realization. Children were dying from cancer because of a lack of funding for the research that could save their lives. We believed we could make a difference. Our mission is to conquer childhood cancer in our lifetime. We are dedicated to advancing research, specifically directed to treating and saving the lives of
children. We also support families through one of life’s most difficult trials by addressing their most critical and urgent needs. From emergency financial
assistance and professional counseling to one-on-one support and more, we help throughout the excruciating journey, and beyond. We are making
a difference. Fifty years ago, the survival rate for childhood cancer was approximately 10%. Today, it is nearly 80%. Less than 4% of funding for cancer research is allocated to childhood cancers. In the last 35 years, only three new cancer drugs have been specially developed for childhood cancers, compared to hundreds of drugs for adult cancers.
