As a horse trainer, every horse, we meet has a place in our heart. Rikki held(holds) a huge spot in mine. My deepest condolences to Stacy and Mauricio Duran for their loss of a very special horse Rikki Tikki Too. Rikki passed away peacefully at his retirement farm early this morning.

He made everyone he met giggle with his silly antics. Rikki was a champion at halter tag and would play it with himself even if his best friends Doc and Stormy were tired of it.

Stacy was kind enough to share Rikki with everyone. When I was without a personal horse Stacy allowed me to ride Rikki in clinics with Sharon White, Guillermo DeHoogh and Christopher Taylor. He was an amazing teacher to all those who had the privilege to ride him.

Tall Grass Equestrian and Silver Spur Ranch Illinois are excited to share that they will be hosting esteemed dressage instructor Christopher Taylor for a 1 day clinic Sunday October 11th at the Silver Spur Ranch in Maple Park IL.

Quality in performance, dedication, achievement, and excellence-the tenets of Christopher Taylor’s riding and training philosophy resulted from his studies with some of the worlds most prominent American and European to Dressage experts.

Chris is passionately committed to classical training always striving for lightness balance and harmony with unique in structural style for both horse and rider- “Ask a little at a time, praise often”. The result has been happy, highly motivated horses and riders who can focus, as partners, and learning their art

He stresses “Basics, basics basics...and small incremental steps.” Chris has observed that when horses derail in the Dressage-even at the highest levels-it is usually because the basic foundation has been ignored. He strongly believes that regardless of discipline any horse and rider will reap benefits from Dressage.

This philosophy has proven its value for both Chris and his students. Chris has completed internationally at the FEI Grand Prix levels, and has been FEI champion in the Prix St. Georges and was selected to represent Bermuda at the 1999 Pan American Games.

We are thrilled to be hosting Christopher. If you are interested in riding with him please message us. We do intend to make it an auditor friendly. In the event you are unable to ride but would still like to learn there will be no charge for auditing.

For a few hours, I’m not thinking about work, responsibilities, the never-ending to-do list, or who needs something from me.

I’m just there. With my horse. 🤎

And I think that’s why so many of us keep going back.

It was never just about the horses. 🐴

Everyone had a wonderful time last Sunday with Christopher Taylor at the Silver Spur Ranch Illinois in Maple Park. Christopher’s extensive knowledge of different exercises never ceases to amaze me. Through his careful guidance he challenged the clinic participants with new games to play with their horses. Some games focused on suppling and balancing the horse. Other games focused on the riders timing of the aids. All were effective at improving both the horse and rider. We are excited have Christopher back out October 11th!
