DRAGON'S LAIR SEASON 3 - WHAT A SEASON

Season 3 was an incredible one for Dragon's Lair Axe & Tap.

Our throwers didn't just compete. They established themselves among the best throwers and teams in the world across virtually every discipline.

WORLD #1
Amy Coppersmith and David Lewis, Team Ermergurd
#1 in the WORLD - Knife Duals

TOP 10 IN THE WORLD
Ryan Ortiz, "The Kingslayer"
#3 in the WORLD - Knives

David Lewis, "Lightning"
#6 in the WORLD - Big Axe

Ryan Ortiz & Tim O'Rourke
#6 in the WORLD - Knife Duals

National Champ!
We did have a National Tournament Champion as well. Randall Wildeman topped the Amateur Field in Neosho, Missouri at Anvil Axe and earned his bid to worlds as the top Amateur Hatchet thrower. We are very proud!

And the depth went well beyond the Top 10.

Randall Wildeman - #21 Amateur Hatchet, #38 Big Axe
David Lewis - #20 Knives
Randall Wildeman & Shawn Harm - #21 Hatchet Duals
Amy Coppersmith - #27 Knives
Amy Coppersmith & David Lewis - #41 Hatchet Duals
Olaf Lee - #44 Knives
Trey Cain - #51 Big Axe (my cutoff was going to be 50, but 51, c’mon!)
Tim O'Rourke & Victor Trofimuk - #46 Hatchet Duals

AND NOW, WORLDS.

Dragon's Lair already has an extraordinary group of throwers who have qualified for the World Championships:

David Lewis - Hatchet, Hatchet Duals, Big Axe, Knife and Knife Duals
Amy Coppersmith - Knife and Knife Duals
Austin Luecke - Hatchet Duals and Big Axe
Ryan Ortiz - Knife and Knife Duals
Randall Wildeman - Hatchet and Hatchet Duals
Shawn Harm - Hatchet and Hatchet Duals
Tim O'Rourke - Hatchet Duals, Knife
Victor Trofimuk - Hatchet, Hatchet Duals
Olaf Lee - Knife and Knife Duals
Trey Cain - Hatchet and Hatchet Duals, and Big Axe
Shawn Autry - Hatchet Duals
Blake Wiemann - Hatchet
Nick Tieri - Hatchet

And Season 4 still gives several Lair throwers opportunities to add more qualifications.

Three throwers we anticipate getting bids with Season 4 include Dialyn Thelen, Laura Solarez, and Hannah Willford.

One accomplishment deserves special recognition:

David Lewis has qualified for all five World Championship disciplines for the third consecutive year. Five disciplines. Three straight years.

But what makes Season 3 special isn't any one ranking, qualification or thrower.

It's the depth.

From newer competitors climbing the rankings to established professionals competing at the highest level in the sport, Dragon's Lair continues to demonstrate what can happen when great throwers practice, compete, teach and push one another every week.

One Lair. One team. One hell of a Season 3.

Congratulations to every Dragon's Lair thrower who competed, improved, qualified, supported a teammate or helped make this season what it was.

And we're not finished yet.

Season 4 is coming October 11th and 12th. Come see what all the excitement is at the Lair.

What a great night at the Dragon's Lair Axe & Tap!

We had the pleasure of hosting an event for The Uprising and Focus Features with some of the top influencers in the Twin Cities. The energy was fantastic, the axes were flying, and everyone had an incredible time.

A huge thank you to Amanda, Claire, and the entire team at Nemer Finger for hosting the event with us. We truly appreciate the opportunity to be part of such a memorable evening.

Special thanks to Amy Coppersmith for bringing her expertise as Axemaster and making sure this great group had a fun, safe, and unforgettable experience.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We loved having you at the Lair!

What a night, and what a movie.

There is so much to love about this film. The storyline is compelling, the performances are exceptional, and Andrew Garfield once again reminds you just how talented he is. The acting, intensity, and storytelling throughout were incredibly well done.

There was, however, one artistic choice that proved challenging for a few of us. Much of the film uses a constantly moving, handheld-style camera. For people who aren't sensitive to motion, it probably adds another layer of immediacy and intensity to the story. For those of us who are prone to motion sickness, it was tough. Amy and Matt especially struggled to keep their eyes focused on the screen, and I wasn't far behind them.

It was particularly interesting because the last major film we saw was The Odyssey, where such painstaking care went into the IMAX cameras and creating an extraordinary visual experience. Going from that kind of incredibly precise cinematography to a film intentionally using restless, constantly moving camerawork was quite the cinematic gear shift.

Our recommendation comes with just that one qualifier. If moving camerawork doesn't bother you, absolutely go see this movie. The story, performances, and overall production are very, very good. If you're susceptible to motion sickness, just know what you're walking into. I love Andrew Garfield movies, and even I found this one physically difficult to watch at times.

And to the Coppersmiths, please accept our sincerest apologies. We promise we don't normally try to make our friends dizzy at the movies. That's usually what having Amy spin before a knife throw is for.

A special thank you to the Autrys, Kinghorns, and Coppersmiths for joining us for the evening. Getting to share experiences like this with good friends makes them that much better.

We're also not finished with the fun. Tomorrow evening we're having a special movie-themed event at Dragon's Lair Axe & Tap, and we'll have plenty more pictures coming from what should be a fantastic night.

🔪 THE LAIR IS BUILT DIFFERENT 🔪

We’re continuing our International Knife Throwing Day celebration by recognizing the incredible knife-throwing community growing right here at Dragon’s Lair Axe & Tap.

Leading the way is Ryan “The Kingslayer” Ortiz, currently ranked #3 in the world and heading back to the World Championships.

Right behind him is Ermergurd, the world’s current #1-ranked Knife Duals team: Amy “Wonder Woman” Coppersmith and David Lewis.

Also heading to Worlds is Olaf Lee, with Tim O’Rourke (duals qualified on different team) and Trey Cain right on the cusp of earning their bids.

We’re equally proud of every thrower helping build our growing WKTL leagues and our future World Championship throwers:

Austin Luecke (also duals qualified)
Shawn Harm
Garrett Moran
Dialyn “Dia” Thelen
MJ “The Brain” Auel
Lisa Kinghorn
Donald Kinghorn
Jacob Hyers
Hannah Willford
Tyler Peppe
Morgan Groath
Kyle Johannessen
Dan Bement
Lorena Mariscal
And more to come!

From established world-class competitors to some of the most promising rising throwers in WKTL, this group represents everything we love about the sport: competition, improvement, encouragement and community.

We couldn’t be prouder of what is being built at the Lair.

Want to learn from some of the best? Come throw with us:

Now let’s finish Season 3 STRONG! 🐉🪓🔪

09/08/2026

THANK YOU FOR AN INCREDIBLE LABOR DAY AT THE LAIR! 🐉🪓

Labor Day turned into one of the longest throwing days we’ve ever had at Dragon’s Lair Axe & Tap, and it was an incredible day from start to finish.

We kicked things off at 10:00 AM with Hatchet, rolled straight into Hatchet Duals, and finished our marathons with Big Axe.

Then somehow we still had more throwing left.

Our Monday League Hatchet and Duals tournaments followed, and we’ll be posting photos from those soon.

What made the day even better was having throwers come in from outside Minnesota to compete alongside our local axe family. That mix of visitors, regulars, league throwers and friends made the entire day feel special.

We were also able to work in birthday celebrations for two members of our axe family, Trey and Shawn. Happy birthday again to both of you!

Most of all, THANK YOU to everyone who competed, helped, supported, cheered, stayed late, traveled in and spent part of your Labor Day with us.

Days like this are exactly why we’re so thankful for the community that has grown around The Lair.

Season 3 still has one more week to go before it officially closes on September 13, and we’re not done yet.

We also cannot wait to update everyone on the growing list of Dragon’s Lair throwers heading to the World Championships.

More to come. More photos to come. And plenty more throwing ahead.
Thank you for making Labor Day one we’ll remember for a long time.
