WMUR spoke with Manchester Firing Line instructor Thomas Brown about one of the most important responsibilities of firearm ownership: preventing unauthorized access.

Whether a firearm is kept at home or secured inside a vehicle, it must remain inaccessible to children and other unauthorized individuals.

Cable locks, lockboxes, quick-access storage devices, and safes are among the options available. The right storage method may vary, but the responsibility does not.

As Thomas shared, “If you can’t safely store and control your firearm, then everything else is kind of secondary.”

Tonight we kicked off the first class in what is becoming a much bigger personal-protection series at Iron Rose!

We started with a deep dive into pepper spray, what it is, how it works, considerations for carrying it, deployment, hands-on practice and real-world application.

And we’re just getting started.

🌹 October at 2026 National Iron Rose Rise-Together Weekend: we’ll continue the conversation with stun guns, including an opportunity for women to learn about and experience these tools in a controlled environment.

🌹 November: we move into TASER devices, giving women another opportunity to see, handle and better understand an option they may have heard about but never actually had the chance to explore.

And in 2027, we’ll be expanding this into a full series.

Because choosing a personal-protection tool shouldn’t start with, “Someone told me I should carry this.”

It should start with education.

What is it?
How does it work?
What are its limitations?
Am I comfortable using it?
And does it actually fit my personal safety plan?
